Annoying image scroll and other fixes

Post by atreestump »

When in the Discuss tab we no longer have the annoying issue where you try to scroll past an image or video attachment in feed or topic view and it just opens, no matter how careful you try.

It's stopped!

I have also removed the back button in topic view and replaced it with a close icon. As browser/android/iphone forward and back functions now handle history, the back button became annoying and made it hard to exit the topic view.

Also, username links in Discuss now open the Connect profile for that user.

Thank you so much! These are all really nice improvements that make the main site more enjoyable to navigate through.

I'm also, just as a fun little thing like I often do, musing to myself and thinking about how information reaches people, what makes it through, what doesn't, and how more could make it through, to me at least, with all the various constraints that people may have, as even with my limited constraints, I still only get a trickle of the information that I expose myself to or have opened up, as it often becomes so difficult to navigate or overwhelming that I can't do it, and wipe it all out and start again, and eventually certain things make it through, while many other things may be lost or long delayed in ever reaching me. Sometimes ehat makes it through, like a sperm cell that reaches an egg and may tyrn into a treasured child, gets put on a pedestal just for being something that reached me when so much else didn't, but then again it could be, or many might think, that such a thing reached me has or should have no special significance attributed to it, as it was just a matter of blind and random luck rather than anything more going on. Other theories are that what makes it through were "meant to be", others place the responsibility of such on oneself, even if it is out of one's conscious control, and then others might value things differently, suggesting that whatever reaches one may not be for the good of the person.

In the case of website design and the main site, the ideal for me would be a way that the maximum amount of enjoyable information can speedily reach me with the least amount of effort, navigation, or other thought and planning involved, and that there are no things that frustrate the person viewing or interference or impede or slow down the process of receiving information and interacting with it through response, whenever possible.

On the forum site, I think I'm mainly unobstructed. Whatever I put up I've read and viewed and have put up for at least something that I want to save as a reference since it can be very difficult for these things to be remembered and found again with the way the search engines are acting on these websites and the overload of constant new information recycling and repositioning a limited number of words overall.

Information based on language and even visuals made up of pixels on the digital platforms or screens seems to largely be just be reorganization of words and colors. We've likely heard and seen just about everything there is to hear and see already, just not in every particular position or sequence. Certain patterns seem to bore us or give us a sense of too little of interest, other sequences still excite us and stimulate our imagination further and give us good feelings and memories.

I think that this forum site has been really enjoyable for me so far for the most part and very useful also for thinking of ideas and saving references and returning to them. I'll have to check out the main site again and practice using it more to see in what ways for me personally at least I may be enjoying it or feeling less enjoyment as compared to the forum site.

Is there any way to make what is posted there fully viewable here also? I think I may also be hesitating to pist there because of the amount of videos and links that I've been posting and the fear that it will not be viewable in a nice way when I view through the forum site in case I still prefer the way this site looks as compared to that site.

I'm about to wipe out my zillions of accumulated links again. Each time that occurs I hope that I won't build up so much that I can't get to, but in order to not lose things that I want to view or at least skim through to see if it has anything in it that I may consider worthehile for me, I open up each thing that I see that looks to be of some interest at the time, and it very quickly ends up being many hours and days and weeks of material not easily experienced even on the 2x speed.

Speaking of which, if you're in control of the picture and video stuff uploaded here, or even viewed through your sites, I'd like to be able to save everything easily, like pictures and videos at their full quality, to zoom way in with little to no restriction or issues and hold the zoomed positions while releasing my fingers without it snapping back or requiring me to hold my fingers on the phone screen to keep it zoomed or move it anywhere over the zoomed image or video, and I'd also like higher speeds than the 2x that YouTube is limited at, in case that I can still read the captions and process what they are saying at even higher speeds in order to cut down some of these irritatingly long and longwinded videos to much shorter times, so 4 hours to 2 hours to 1 hour to half an hour to 15 minutes haha, but that might not leave anything comprehensible. Also the auto captions are helpful on everything, but all that may be too advanced or not within your control, so take these as just dreams that I have for any new image viewing and video sharing platform or improvements I wish were available in YouTube.

I aldo enjoy statistical information and lots of transparency made available, at least in some section, just for enjoyment mainly, so different counts and things tracked and noted, like it is interesting for me to see the most viewed areas of videos on YouTube and I like to be able to change the way things are organized on there, like viewing peoples posts or videos from oldest to newest or most viewed to least or leadt viewed to most or whatever else, though YouTube is pretty limited seeming in that regard and has variously removed and added back such features after people would complain. One of the worst things about YouTube and Google and even other companies is how aloof and remote they try to keep themselves from people and how they can't seem to be reached or contacted and problems seem unlikely to get resolved or noticed, and what I've liked so much about these sites is that everything has been dealt with very quickly because it is still new and small rather than a giant ignoring mites running over it in crevices it can't even deal with and which it doesn't care to. People are made to feel similarly, possibly legitimately or justifiably or in other words accurately, about their governments or even local issues in their neighborhoods. Like I feel there is practically nothing that I can do about anything around here that might be, or ever may be, an issue, so seeing things dealt with very quickly here has a powerful positive effect overall even though it is mainly in this specific area, it still makes me feel great to see your progress and success.

Im afraid that if it's not viewable on the forum site so well there's not alot I can do about that.

I find phpbb hard to customise tbh. That's why I started afresh.

Hi! New here. In Firefox on desktop, the page has a dark background, and white text, which is fine (my preference in fact), but links are in blue so difficult to read unless I select the text.

(I have disabled the link preview feature of Firefox due to the involvement of AI which I want to minimize my usage of as much as possible. Sorry, one of those awkward types!)

I used to be an enthusiastic hobbyist coder, so do appreciate how tricky this stuff can be with all the different standards etc.

Thanks for fixing.
Would it be possible to change user/display name?
I want to amend mine to a longer variant I've used elsewhere which is more unique/identifiable.
I think!
