Like no other time in history, it seems, Ugliness may be more acceptable for public display, consumption, and approval than ever before in history, where it had always been far more limited and less graphic, easy to access, and basically mainstream as it appears today.
People have perhaps always been made to consume, record, and repeat what could be called the "uncanny", uncommon, even or often the heinous, like atrocious actions in stories that were supposed to be viewed as horrible and therefor also thought provoking due to being so odd, or bad, or difficult to accept, even as fictions, frequently appearing in the remaining myths from around much of the world. The strange and abominable has long been what occupied the entertainment for people based on what remains, yet ugliness never seemed as showcased unabashedly and unmasked from innuendo and suggestions as it is today, where it seems practically glorified by the very few who create anything for mass consumption.

There is a constant surge from the most potent purveyrs of media and indoctrination that people are so individualistic and different from each other that there is nothing in common between people or a long term norm and that beauty standards and what has been considered beautiful among the world's populace can be vastly different, but based on our appearances and other studies, that seems to be a misguided, perhaps idealistic, fantasy. Those weird example people may bring up were far from the norm accepted everywhere, most likely similar to someone bringing up te most ridiculous seeming trends in fashion and makeup today, mostly only accepted by an elite minority, and saying everyone agreed with them and no one thought they were looking like crazy freaks and were most likely deemed abhorrent by anyone who actually caught sight of them:
