(kFoyauextlH thought you might appreciate this thread as well so i've copied and pasted it here)
I have created this thread as an exercise in exploring the deeper meanings behind concepts.
How would you go about selling your soul?
This thread is not about why you would or would not do such a thing (I know many of you would not do such a thing and think its stupid etc) that is entirely not the point.
For this exercise you will need to go into detail on 2 main parts.
1. The soul - what is it? each person here will have a differing idea of what the soul is, so go into as much detail as you can on your idea of what a soul is.
(this thread is also not about arguing over whos version of the soul is right or wrong, that does not matter and is not the point. if you have questions for somebody else, when you reply to them follow the rules laid out in their description of what a soul is, you can ask them to clarify these rules etc but dont come at them from your soul-idea because you are asking them questions about their soul-idea)
2. The sell - after you have explained in detail your idea and concept behind what a soul is describe in as best detail you can how you would go about selling it/ transferring it to somebody else etc.
I want to stress this is not about selling a novelty item such as a peice of paper stating "you own my soul" but the actual act and method of transferring your idea of the whole "Soul" as you describe above.
Not transferring the concept of the soul.
Not transferring the idea of the soul.
But the actual soul-object itself as described above.
As a very simple example.
1. Soul - an apple, a tasty fruit to some varying from greens and reds comes from a tree, can fit in most hands.
2. The sell - a customer comes up to you asking to purchase a soul, you pick the soul up physically hand it to them and take some local currency in exchange, the soul is now theirs they are free to do with it what they wish. Throw it, eat it etc.
(The above is a very simple example, i will be slightly surprised if something similar comes up.)
I look forward to seeing what you can come up with.
From elsewhere: "Ok. So.
0. I would go about selling my soul easily as follows (and the pact is mentioned in the Qur'an as well and is made during the worship practice repeatedly during the kneeling phase of the exercise.):
1. The Soul does not exist in my view at all as what people tend to use the term for. When they use the term, like their misuse of the word "energy" (which means action or potention for activity), which they take as a sort of material or substance that works like a viscous liquid, they are referring to something which the term was not really used for and which they only imagine mainly. The Soul according to most people is imagined to refer to some sort of ghost matter being or copy of themselves living inside of their body, which can come out of the body and do things or leaves the body upon death. This is a sort of dualism where they consider physical matter one sort and "spirit matter" another sort, and the spirit matter is inside the physical matter and making it move and when it is gone the body is dead. They describe demons as being made of this spirit material which can also enter bodies or influence and control bodies or minds the way their spirit material does, and to dominate their ghosts or supress them while the demon is filling the space or hijacking the person. This is all superstitious silliness m which people seem to describe and imagine without saying as much directly or formulating their ideas clearly or proving it. There is no evidence of "spirit matter" or any such dynamics existing. A demon need not be what they say and imagine, and had they ever encountered a real "spirit creature" they would still probably say foolish things like "alternate dimension, spirit energy, negative, positive". There are carbon based lifeforms and plasma based life forms. Modern scientists and humans have published very little recently on plasma based life forms because most likely find it hard to find and capture and study them, plus doing so might be terrible indeed. Both carbon based life forms and plasma based life forms are living in this world, are visible, can be photographed, they are made of matter, real things, real material, they are not "energy (action) substance" they look most often like a fine mist when dispersing their membrane. Most people have probably had run ins with them or close encounters but since they are expecting girls in white dresses and other silly stuff, they don't notice if a plasma based creature is right by them or flies right by. They are not invisible to anyone, you don't need the ability to lie "The Second Sight" to see them. They can be recorded, filmed with cameras and infared heat vision and whatever, plainly there. They are not "magical" how people tend to use the term to mean "able to do things without the proper steps involved" or immortal but because people don't know what is going on they can appear magical if people get lost in deluded thinking which they seem perpetually ready to do.
There is no Soul the way people use it. The term usually translated as soul in the Bible meant the person, generally even referring to the body of a person. Nefesh. You don't exist unless you are present in matter in some form, or rather, you don't exist unless you are experiencing and when you are experiencing information, that is all you are, a screen of unique experience (so for the even more advanced understanding, you have no access to anything except information, which is all you know or experience in a moment). There are other concepts used for the word soul, meaning the animation a person is experiencing, generally in other things, which the word spiritus originallt meant, animation, movement. The word spirit is used often to refer to the "energy substance" mentioned before, but has also been used to refer to overall themes which seem to organize things in a certain way, so like "The Spirit of War" being over a warlike people or Neo-Nazi rally or something. It is also used for an idea of extending outward and into thing as reflective of certain qualities thought to be associated with a thing or a person "I see in this letter their spirit, they are so kind" meaning that the material witnessed seems to be organized in such a way that it reflects their tendency or habits or typical activity.
There is no such thing as "dead people who are talking" because if anyone or anything is truly doing anything, they are not dead but active and animated and present. So this is just a confusion regarding proper usage of the word dead. What is truly dead can not do anything. For the advanced thinker, we are all dead, and the Power alone is Alive, the Living, or Animator.
Now the Soul as used in literature, tends to secretly refer to or make reference to the notion of "the life activities and personality of a person, their whole life" which culminates in their death and begins at their quickening in the womb. Your whole life. This is then what seems to be "called to account, judged, weighed, measured" metaphorically as a more complete estimation of the person as a category of reference or file. Then the person is categorized based on that complete file or record of their conduct or form as it was said to be from their beginning to their end on Earth, and they are sorted into a new habitation based on where the file is deemed suitable or appropriate. Thus, in narratives about soul sales, we see that often at the end the person is dead and then the soul, which is their whole record and being, is taken to a torturous domain and a new life. This means the term was being used in a way that "your soul becomes ugly if it is full of bad deeds" meaning your record reflects your conduct. Think of Dorian Gray's Painting. The Painting was supposed to depict the true image or state of his soul or current or complete up to date record as it progressed, even though one could not see it on his body. This idea was more present seeming in a recent film version as well which included a pact scene.
To sell your soul could thus be taken as terminology for working in devotion, giving one's whole life to a cause. This "loan" and statements like these are recorded in the Qur'an. One gives their whole life's activities towards the Cause of Allah, who the medieval people considered Light Bearer (Lucifer).
When you sell your soul, you may be taken to account later or immediately begin work as an agent in the manner of Mephistopheles, who was said to have sold his soul and was now a bodily slave, servant, and agent in the cause of the Devil (who the medieval people considered Odin, Mercury, Allah, whose active form they called Mahound for Muhammed and later took to using the word Baphomet from the Old French Occitan for Muhammed).
People who sell their soul for money are thus those who wholly dedicate their life's activities and efforts to the cause of seeking Mammon (meaning Wealth).
How the real activity would occur is that the person then becomes increasingly entangled with matters dealing with Mammon, and when they die, the complete set of all that are said to be their activities or life's work, will reflect that they sought wealth and what they did. In the meantime though, the "product" had been their body and bodily activities and acts associated with them which shaped the picture or portrait of their character or life."
