The music is funny and manipulative.

Do you see that guy's nose? I'm not kidding completely when I say that is a Ganesha devotee. Not only was he most likely born into a family of such, but a further affinity may have been formed due to Ganesha's trunk resembling his nose, his nose forming like that due to possibly close genetic ties in some area then emphasizing and oversizing that specific feature.

Wow, the lyrics. Tik Tok is a major spreader of "New Religion" that is highly gamified. It is connected, like other social media, to increased mental issues like depression and anxiety, "Psychic Spies From China Try To Steal Your Mind's Elation", how the hell? That was way ahead of its time, and was maybe trying to be like paranoid schizophrenic mumbo jumbo. Tik Tok and other similar things, along with all social media, have been accused of spying and being intelligence operations on an unprecedented scale bypassing all kinds of laws and regulations concerning such things (where were never protecting anyone truly anyway).

Songs don't even have lyrics anymore, like saying anything felt too dangerous to control freaks.

Haha, atheists are such *ssh*les too, they don't even try to figure out what people are thinking and doing, they just impose the stuff they think and think they understand and make it universal, like Orientalism basically, it is despicable what they do so casually.

This other site has terribly annoying ads on the phone:

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Sliggs_(Earth-616)

I like Sliggs for several reasons, starting with the name, since I'm a big fan of camp done in a very specific way that walks the tightrope between silliness and seriousness without going "meta" either.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metagame

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_(prefix)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-referential_humor

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metatheory

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalanguage

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metagam ... ive_gaming

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backronym

"
A backronym is an acronym formed from an already existing word by expansion of its letters into the words of a phrase. Backronyms may be invented with either serious or humorous intent, or they may be a type of false etymology or folk etymology. The word is a portmanteau of back and acronym.[1]
"

"
A normal acronym is a word derived from the initial letter(s) of the words of a phrase,[2] such as radar from "radio detection and ranging".[3] By contrast, a backronym is "an acronym deliberately formed from a phrase whose initial letters spell out a particular word or words, either to create a memorable name or as a fanciful explanation of a word's origin".[1] Many fictional espionage organizations are backronyms, such as SPECTRE (special executive for counterintelligence, terrorism, revenge and extortion) from the James Bond franchise.

For example, the Amber Alert missing-child program was named after Amber Hagerman, a nine-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered in 1996.[4] Officials later publicized the backronym "America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response".[5]
"

Lol, I'm not bringing up backronyms for no reason either, it has to do with changing meanings while continuing to use things. One of the most misleading is "metagaming" since it should mean something else if one looks at other words using "meta" but it is a dumb, nerd-created backronym that has nothing at all to do with "meta", except that it secretly does, in a way that few people, if any might perceive, and that has to do with the "meta" of "strategy", which is like the imagined "World Of God(s)" overlooking a game or writing reality, the discussion of strategy is like the other "meta" things.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacognition

"
Metacognition is an awareness of one's thought processes and an understanding of the patterns behind them. The term comes from the root word meta, meaning "beyond", or "on top of".[1] Metacognition can take many forms, such as reflecting on one's ways of thinking, and knowing when and how oneself and others use particular strategies for problem-solving.[1][2] There are generally two components of metacognition: (1) cognitive conceptions and (2) a cognitive regulation system.[3][4] Research has shown that both components of metacognition play key roles in metaconceptual knowledge and learning.[5][6][4] Metamemory, defined as knowing about memory and mnemonic strategies, is an important aspect of metacognition.[7]
"

"
Metacognition has two interacting phenomena guided by a person's cognitive regulation:[2]

Metacognitive knowledge (also called metacognitive awareness) is what individuals know about themselves and others like beliefs about thinking and such, as cognitive processors.
Metacognitive experiences are those experiences that have something to do with the current, on-going cognitive endeavor.
Metacognition refers to a level of thinking and metacognitive regulation, the regulation of cognition and subsequent learning experiences that help people enhance their learning through a set of activities. It involves active metacognitive control or attention over the process in learning situations. The skills that aid in regulation involve planning the way to approach a learning task, monitoring comprehension, and evaluating progress towards the completion of a task.

Metacognition includes at least three different types of metacognitive awareness when considering metacognitive knowledge:[17]

Declarative knowledge: refers to knowledge about oneself as a learner and about what factors can influence one's performance.[3] Declarative knowledge can also be referred to as "world knowledge".[18]
Procedural knowledge: refers to knowledge about doing things. This type of knowledge is displayed as heuristics and strategies.[3] A high degree of procedural knowledge can allow individuals to perform tasks more automatically. This is achieved through a large variety of strategies that can be accessed more efficiently.[19]
Conditional knowledge: refers to knowing when and why to use declarative and procedural knowledge.[20] It allows students to allocate their resources when using strategies. This in turn allows the strategies to become more effective.[21]
These types of metacognitive knowledge also include:

Content knowledge (declarative knowledge), which involves understanding of one's own capabilities, such as a student evaluating their own knowledge of a subject in a class. It is notable that not all metacognition is accurate. Studies have shown that students often mistake lack of effort with understanding in evaluating themselves and their overall knowledge of a concept.[22] Also, greater confidence in having performed well is associated with less accurate metacognitive judgment of the performance.[23]
Task knowledge (procedural knowledge), which is how one perceives the difficulty of a task which is the content, length, and the type of assignment. The study mentioned in Content knowledge also deals with a person's ability to evaluate the difficulty of a task related to their overall performance on the task. Again, the accuracy of this knowledge was skewed as students who thought their way was better/easier also seemed to perform worse on evaluations, while students who were rigorously and continually evaluated reported to not be as confident but still did better on initial evaluations.
Strategic knowledge (conditional knowledge) is one's own capability for using strategies to learn information. Young children are not particularly good at this; it is not until students are in upper elementary school that they begin to develop an understanding of effective strategies.
In short, strategic knowledge involves knowing what (factual or declarative knowledge), knowing when and why (conditional or contextual knowledge) and knowing how (procedural or methodological knowledge).

Similar to metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive regulation or "regulation of cognition" contains three skills that are essential.[3][24]

Planning: refers to the appropriate selection of strategies and the correct allocation of resources that affect task performance.
Monitoring: refers to one's awareness of comprehension and task performance
Evaluating: refers to appraising the final product of a task and the efficiency at which the task was performed. This can include re-evaluating strategies that were used.
Metacognitive control is an important skill in cognitive regulation, it is about focusing cognitive resources on relevant information.[25] Similarly, maintaining motivation to see a task to completion is also a metacognitive skill that is closely associated with the attentional control. The ability to become aware of distracting stimuli – both internal and external – and sustain effort over time also involves metacognitive or executive functions. Swanson (1990) found that metacognitive knowledge can compensate for IQ and lack of prior knowledge when comparing fifth and sixth grade students' problem solving. Students with a better metacognition were reported to have used fewer strategies, but solved problems more effectively than students with poor metacognition, regardless of IQ or prior knowledge.[26]

A lack of awareness of one's own knowledge, thoughts, feelings, and adaptive strategies leads to inefficient control over them. Hence, metacognition is a necessary life skill that needs nurturing to improve one's quality of life. Maladaptive use of metacognitive skills in response to stress can strengthen negative psychological states and social responses, potentially leading to psychosocial dysfunction. Examples of maladaptive metacognitive skills include worry based on inaccurate cognitive conceptions, rumination, and hypervigilance. Continuous cycles of negative cognitive conceptions and the associated emotional burden often lead to negative coping strategies such as avoidance and suppression. These can foster pervasive learned helplessness and impair the formation of executive functions, negatively affecting an individual's quality of life.[27]

The theory of metacognition plays a critical role in successful learning, and it's important for both students and teachers to demonstrate understanding of it. Students who underwent metacognitive training including pretesting, self evaluation, and creating study plans performed better on exams.[28] They are self-regulated learners who utilize the "right tool for the job" and modify learning strategies and skills based on their awareness of effectiveness. Individuals with a high level of metacognitive knowledge and skill identify blocks to learning as early as possible and change "tools" or strategies to ensure goal attainment. A broader repertoire of "tools" also assists in goal attainment. When "tools" are general, generic, and context independent, they are more likely to be useful in different types of learning needs. In one study examining students who received text messages during college lectures, it was suggested that students with higher metacognitive self-regulation were less likely than other students to have their learning affected by keeping mobile phones switched on in classes.[29]

Finally, there is no distinction between domain-general and domain-specific metacognitive skills. This means that metacognitive skills are domain-general in nature and there are no specific skills for certain subject areas. The metacognitive skills that are used to review an essay are the same as those that are used to verify an answer to a math question.[30]

edit
A number of theorists have proposed a common mechanism behind theory of mind, the ability to model and understand the mental states of others, and metacognition, which involves a theory of one's own mind's function. Direct evidence for this link is limited.[31]

Several researchers have related mindfulness to metacognition. Mindfulness includes at least two mental processes: a stream of mental events and a higher level awareness of the flow of events.[32] Mindfulness can be distinguished from some metacognition processes in that it is a conscious process.[33]: 137

My faith broke in parts.

First happened when I was 8, when I felt far more Moved and Connected when out in the world, not in a building.

Next came around 10, when I told my parents I didn't want to go to church and basically got told I Didn't Get A Choice. I didn't understand, since sermons about choice and free will made it sound like it was my choice, that it was up to me how often and where I honored my relationship with God. When that was denied to me, I realized it was about control.

This was when I started idiating on a fantasy series I'm STILL DEVELOPING, 22 years later, because reasons.

The final blow came at 14. I'm aging out of Sunday School and starting classes for Confirmation ( church coming of age, first communion, ect ). At this time my specific denomination of the Lutheran church had just voted to allow gays to be pastors, and a lot of old folks in my church were so mad about it they wanted to split off into a new branch.

I asked why folks were upset, during Sunday School, because it didn't make sense to me. I'd sat through sermons and songs about all being welcome and none being closer to god than another- if we are all unclean, if we all sin, but are all capable of standing up and preaching, why not gay folks too? If they can enter the church, why can't they hold the door open for someone else?

I think I got as far as "Why are all the older folks mad about gay people being pastors" before my Sunday school teacher shouted me down so angrily I cannot remember his expression; just the white knuckles of his clenched fists. I remember crying. I don't remember the content of the rest of the class.

After that, my faith was stone dead. I went through the motions to make my mum happy, and hated every second until I was free to escape that church, that house, and that town altogether.

Think of it as a logical contradiction. You can't consider yourself a follower of God, if you are consciously going against it's will.

If you are a christian, it is because you are following the rules of God, and a pastor is someone that GUIDES you through those rules and the word of God, so if someone that is supposed to guide you doesn't follow the rules of it's own God, then it is as if he wasn't christian at all.
And yes, even pastors commit sins, but what is different between commiting a sin, repent and then change your ways to not doing it again, and "spread God's words" being a gay pastor, is that the gay pastors are consciously commiting the same sin over and over, contradicting the words of their God that they are supposed to spread.

With this we can say that if you are in a gay relationship, then you can't consider yourself a pastor because that's just a contradiction. But what about people that seek God, and are gay? They can (in an ideal christian church), as everyone else, enter the church and listen, and even if they continue to be gay, that won't change the fact that they can still enter the church and listen just as every single person should (again, in an ideal church. We are not talking about those that don't welcome gay people and others, because they are directly contradicting the teachings of God, therefore, that shouldn't be considered as a christian church), but they can't say that the are christian/followers of God,because they consciously sin, and as I said earlier, that's a direct contradiction.

This means you have to force yourself to stop being gay or something? No, it means that you can't be two things at the same time that cause a contradiction.

Well, you're wrong. Various conditions led to your awareness binding to this body+mind consciousness. As long as those conditions remain, you will bind again, somewhere, someplace. And you cannot choose the destination.

@chamicels I don't know why that's funny. Don't you think causes create effects? Or do you believe in magic? Something made you bind to a body+mind that will cause you a lot of stress, suffering, illness, grief, and death. Why are you bound to a body+mind that will make you experience much pain? Why do you think you are free from binding again?

@chamicels when you go to bed and sleep, you will unbind from sensory consciousness and bind to dream consciousness. And when you wake up, you will unbind from dream consciousness, and bind back to sensory consciousness. So, you already know that you can bind and unbind to different types of consciousness. Why do you think you can't bind to a consciousness in Hell? Do you think evil people die the same as Mother Theresa?

@linkkhanato6320
1 year ago (edited)
@chadkline4268 I mean binding is kind of BS when you consider that if you switched consciousness you would simply go from one state to the other. Despite this you are implying that somehow dreaming still takes place in another bind despite the fact that its effects can be seen on the normal body. There is no switch of consciousness from one to the other it happens on the same brain all the time. It's just a different part of the body even by that logic.

With that said I think the reason why they are laughing is because I...have no f*cking clue what that has to do with hell. Everyone believes in magic, we do it all the time while using amazing devices like this to communicate with one another, so clearly there is some crazy sh*t this world has for us. There is also no lightning being struck by heavenly beings whenever someone commits a crime so we all know that there if something is lurking beneath spacetime it seems to have alot of reasons to not care thus far. Perhaps that's were the magic ends.

@LukeStonePharmD beliefs are silly. They will die with your brain. Waste of time. None of you are analyzing sentience. None of you are making conclusions rooted in reality.

@chadkline4268 by the same reasoning, your whole life is silly, why bother living? And you are also wrong. These beliefs exist as memes. They take life beyond the individual. The individual will cease, but the ideas are notoriously hard to kill. I feel that fighting in the face of the inevitable heat death of the universe is a noble act. Knowing it is futile and fighting anyway? That's not a waste of time, it's f**king heroic.

Chad Kline can't seem to get back to the point of doubting what they are so sure is the correct narrative for what they are experiencing. They could be wrong and I think they are. What is binding? What is it that you are suggesting is going and binding. What makes you think that? Is anything else conceivable? You think those are not beliefs? You're hypnotized, maybe by yourself. What if you were to somehow understand there is nothing binding, those things you think are being "binded to" are not being "binded to" by anything, they are the things themselves, nothing else is interacting with them. Inconceivable right? Why do you think so? You are so heated by what you are certain of. Try harder, like how cool things harden. If certainty has you seeming so hot, imagine how hard it is for you to be the clown, just like all of these convinced people are so sure that they aren't. I see a joke, and you wonder if the people laughing know it.

Re: The God(s): Deconstructing Religious & Magical Thinking

Post by kFoyauextlH »

YouTube and Reddit, usually within or under whatever I've linked above it. They are out of a large number of interactions I read, which make me consider some things, and they are sometimes next to impossible to find again, especially when there are numerous comments overall and sometimes their order seems to change also amd they appear in things that I have to expand. I used to interact with thousands of people regularly since the early days of the internet becoming more popular and mainstream, starting in the 90s. It has switched over now to just seeing other people interacting briefly, and the nature of the interactions have changed a lot too. The different way that certain age groups interact based on the clues provided in their styles are also interesting to me.

I was thinking about how these platforms have become some of the most visited websites in the entire world, and how people are increasingly using it as their go-to and source for both entertainment and knowledge, except barely anyone on it appears to be what I'd consider intelligent or even entertaining for most part, almost ever.

I was also thinking about how you and I are very smart probably, and that there is no apparent correlation between intelligence and opportunities and financial success, and how so many total jerks and morons seem to get all kinds of opportunities and wealth in ways that didn't depend on much or even any intelligence really. There are so many smart and entertaining, creative people, and we hear nothing of most of them.

I put the formula racing above because I was thinking about how horse racing is gambling and so is this racing, apparently very little skill and barely any differences account for who ends up winning, losing, crashing.

This is in the thread about "Gods" and deconstructing religious abd magical thinking and superstition for a reason.

If you think that there may be an issue with collecting people's comments from YouTube and Reddit here on this site, I can do that on the other site instead and just discuss things here without the sources or quotes directly if there is any issue about it like copyright or something.

I go through pages upon pages of words and images and sounds and songs daily, songs the least probably and words the most, and I've been doing that ever since I've been on the internet and even before the internet by watching lots of films and cartoons and reading lots of books and comics, it has been practically ceaseless.

The people making online content rarely seem to even offer any connections they have personally made, nothing seems like an original thought or that they are putting themselves out there, it so often, if not always, appears like parroting, quoting, lacking originality, putting them in camps, not tying various ideas or experiences. It basically sucks, and I think people are likely getting stupider by thinking that is how to think abd communicate themselves.

I like getting an idea of what the contemporary sentiments may be in certain places and how people are thinking and interacting.

Involvement
Act One

The Absolute is first mentioned in Act One. Most of the goblins in the area have converted to worshiping the Absolute, and are gathering as an army under their banner. Followers of the Absolute can be found searching the Wilderness for survivors of the wreck.

The Absolute seems to be tied to the mass abductions and Illithid activity. Those infected with a Mind Flayer Parasite are known in the cult as True Souls. Other followers of the Absolute are branded with the Brand of the Absolute. Those who are infected with a Mind Flayer Parasite can exert some degree of control over people who are branded.

Upon approaching the Goblin Camp the party may experience a vision from the Absolute. It is revealed that the Mysterious Artefact has been protecting the party and their companions from the influence of the Absolute.

Speak with Dead is cast on the Mind Flayer corpse near Dror Ragzlin Dror Ragzlin and asked about the Absolute, the party receives this vision:

Curved drow blades, crude goblin torches, gnoll teeth dripping blood. You see other mind flayers arranged in a serene circle. Absolute unity. Absolute power.

— Dead Mind Flayer
Act Two
The Chosen of the Absolute
After arriving in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, it is revealed that the armies of the Absolute are converging on Moonrise Towers. If arriving at Moonrise Towers to
investigate
investigate further, several more True Souls can be found among the tower's ranks as well as their leader, General Ketheric Thorm Ketheric Thorm, one of the Absolute's Chosen; he is holding a trial for survivors from the Goblin Camp (including Minthara Minthara, should she still be alive).

During the finale of Act Two, once the party reaches the end of the Mind Flayer Colony, the Absolute's true identity is revealed: it is not a god of any sort, but an enslaved Elder Brain, under the control of its supposed Chosen: Ketheric Thorm Ketheric Thorm, Enver Gortash Lord Enver Gortash, and Orin Orin the Red, who actually serve the Dead Three. Through the use of the Crown of Karsus, the Chosen are able to command the Elder Brain, which can in turn command True Souls by controlling their Tadpoles (save the party, due to the protection of the Mysterious Artefact).

Following this revelation, the Chosen command the brain to order the armies of the Absolute to march on Baldur's Gate, while Ketheric remains behind to battle the party. Once defeated, the party obtains his Netherstone, and the Dream Guardian emerges from the Prism to discuss the situation with the player character. They reveal that the Crown's magic is what gives the mind flayer parasites their special abilities, and that the Netherstones are what control the Crown (and, in turn, the brain).

Act Three
The Absolute
Shortly after beginning Act Three, the Absolute attempts to dominate the party and compel their transformation into mind flayers, forcing them to retreat into the safety of the Astral Prism and assist their Dream Guardian.

If Enver Gortash Gortash is spoken to following his coronation, he reveals the Chosen's plans for the Absolute in full: Ketheric Thorm was to use the façade of the Absolute to create an army to march on Baldur's Gate. Meanwhile, Orin would use the Cult of Bhaal to commit prolific murders all over Baldur's Gate and frame them as acts of the Cult of the Absolute. Both of these acts were intended to frighten the populace, whereupon Gortash would offer his solution by defeating the Absolute's army with the Steel Watch. The fear of the Absolute would allow him to take total control, enforcing his tyranny under the guise of keeping the population safe from the Absolute, without anyone ever knowing that he was one of its leaders.

Cultists of the Dead Three that are aware of the true plot behind the Absolute.

Bane (God) Cultists of Bane
Bhaal Cultists of Bhaal
Myrkul Cultists of Myrkul

True Souls
True Souls are Followers of the Absolute who have been infected with an illithid tadpole which grants them psionic powers similar to the player character. They serve as commanding members of the Absolute's army. True Souls almost always have a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen that can be looted from their bodies if killed.

True Souls infected with an illithid tadpole believe they have been personally chosen by the Absolute to impose her will, and have been granted special powers to do so.[1] In truth, True Souls have been forcefully tadpoled without their consent, with the Netherbrain manipulating and ordering them through the parasites in their brains.[2][3]

Rank and file members of the Absolute's army that have yet to be granted an "audience" with the Absolute or receive a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen. The living forces of the Absolute are composed of a wide variety of entities with varying motives: some are devoted cultists, others simple soldiers or opportunists, and even some who have been enthralled by the Netherbrain to an extent.[4]

The majority of the Absolute's forces are being led by an officer corps primarily composed of drow warriors, often former Lolth-adhering veterans that have been tadpoled.[8][9] The overwhelming majority of cultists adhering to the Absolute legitimately believe that they are serving a new goddess, having fallen into the religious hoax.[10][11][12]

Re: The God(s): Deconstructing Religious & Magical Thinking

Post by kFoyauextlH »

I had a strange dream which gave me the strong impression I had seen it before, or perhaps just repeating within that sleep session. It was like a trailer for a show or film that looked professional and seemed to be taking itself quite seriously. It was made to look like a semi-fantastical 1920s or something, and there were these kids running around on a street with lots of colorful and differently colored buildings all right next to each other, one red, another yellow, another pink, blue, orange, and streets that had older style roads, like cobblestone but more like just a lot of separate, equally placed something and then the separation indentations between each piece making up the road. There was a sewer cover from which splashed up a few clams and algae and the kids continued to run into a building, and then rn back out with a guy who looked like Einstein and took him to the sewer cover, and he quickly assessed that the Volcano is going to erupt soon. So he started to plan something and started to ask and order around people who were coming out and around to go here and there, and they were all Einsteins but dressed differently lol, it was an entire community of Einsteins, The Society of Einsteins. It showed some other actors playing various Einsteins at different ages and weights and eccentric costumes like a military commander Einstein looking like he was from some past military from the late 1800s or something.

Then a few moments of the show started to play, and it showed a contrast, down in our wirld, as now it appeared the society was up in some high place or a flying machine somehow, and it introduced our world as Canaan, and the roads were muddy and the driving of pretty modern cars was aggressive. People were still dressed a little old fashioned, but were much more irritable as compared to the curious and anxious Einsteins who were also playful and proactive.

When I was seeing this all playing, especially at the point of the Canaan stuff, I was like, jeez, this is more annoying propaganda deprecating and associating all kinds of stuff, like when it showed Canaan, introduced on a flying or floating sign at the city entrance, and it was barely noticeable as a city, it was a complete contrast and opposite to the narrow and tight city area the Einsteins were in, which looked like a high end European resort type Riviera place, but Canaan was mud, and flat, with lots of cars roving around on roads but only short buildings if at all, here and there, it seemed very opened rather than closed but on a grid still, with big city blocks rather than tight streets. When the sign introduced Canaan, there was someone saying "This Mecca of ours" or something too, so I was like, lol, this is what they think of all of us. They were trying to show this as the intellectually inferior and generally wholly inferior aggressive masses, who had possibly been handed down some trinkets like the flying electrical sign from the Einsteins, but couldn't build or achieve anything for themselves, like what is said constantly about all the people, especially the people who are treated as the new Canaanites, even though it is a lie. So the show went from obnoxious to even more obnoxious and annoying seeming lol. There was another show where some woman was looking for someone to marry and her friends and family were with her to also judge the guys, and then here was this cranky older man like in his 50s or even further on, having quite an attitude and being pretty critical of her and her friends work and art even though he did something similar as a draftsman and possibly an architect or engineer or something like that, and she was considering marrying the guy even though he seemed pretty unpleasant and this was just the first meeting on a television show and he was anti-charming and practically hostile, lol, so I felt bad and somehow hugged her from behind and she suggested it was to fondle her or something lol, gosh, why dream at all.

This was brought up here specifically. The dream with this girl also had something mentioned about a higher place, and a lower place, like the dream about the Einsteins which seemed to occur afterwards but felt like I may have seen a briefer advertisement for it before, which was the part up until the Einstein guy coming out and realizing there was going to be an eruption, but not the extra part which showed lots of the actors and other Einsteins, but maybe just a few of them when he was quickly trying to organize them.

So there was a notion of an idealized higher realm, a worse off lower realm, and an even worse realm under that, so the dating show matchmaking dream was taking place in the middle relm, which was generally depicted as unpleasant and with pretty aggressive, irritable, suspicious, unpleasant people, and the lower realm which was depicted like a basement or down stairs where light becomes even more limited but nothing particularly bad was shown about it. What was said though was that the person should want her to be with them if she goes up or if they go down, they would want her company and not to be alone. While watching that I thought, what if they make for bad company if it is Hell that is being talked about? Then the thought was that a person might not want to be alone, especially if they are afraid.

Fear didn't seem to be apparent in the Einsteins show dream in Canaan, where the fear element were the drivers and roads and how the people were living in mud and poverty and the driving was so aggressive and they were so angry. The fear seemed to be in the higher realm of the Einsteins moreso, where they were concerned about the eruption and doing something in relation to it. The volcanic activity or seismic activity could've been the rage building on the realm below them, the one left in mud and rage and vehicular pollution. The fear in the other show was this girl giving herself over to this horrible man just to be married to someone and get the benefits of marriage, perhaps some more financial security, though he was such a mean seeming person and mean about her creativity and creative interests too. She seemed suspicious of whoever cared for her and was hugging her, played by me or who was seen from a more personal perspective, so she was annoying too and not entirely sympathetic, these fears and doubts and suspicions were leading her to an unpleasant seeming long term interaction and being literally turned away from people who really cared, as I was hugging from behind. The basement seen only briefly had a single light source which didn't go all that far, everything that was visible was clearly visible on the descent, but then starkly dark all around, creating a sense of potential depth that may or may not be there, so it seemed both tight and vast, with the vastness only potential and unverified, so much was unverified, but one wanted someone to be there with them rather than alone. There was no known population below, there was quite a bit of population in the middle, in the show she was surrounded by people who knew her, and in Canaan there were lots of cars but no one connected with anyone, it was all just aggression, zooming around, anonymity mainly as no one was seen in the vehicle and the view or how the camera was moving was low on the streets, making the traffic even more terrifying and monstrous seeming. In the Einstein location, there were no vehicles in sight anywhere at all, and really no variety of people, as various as they were, as they seemed to all be Einstein at various ages, possibly even the children. He also referred to them all as Einstein, and they all knew which one he was meaning lol.

Added in 28 minutes 19 seconds:
So the higher realm had one person as a variety of people with different abilities all cooperative for themselves, the middle realm had all varieties of people driving aggressively and not known to each other or cooperative, the show in the middle realm had all various people who were not really helpful towards each other, the lower realm had one or two people and was only potential as it was not known or didn't necessarily happen that two were there or ever possibly there, so that may be only ever one and possibly an imaginary second as it was imaginary or hypothetical even in the dream, and that may be one, like a version of the higher realm which was one that was many, different from the middle that was a variety at odds and acting as threats, obstructions, and contrary to one another, and that almost makes the lower realm seem better than the middle, except that it might have been feel of fear and suspense, where the middle was full of threats and aggression, and the higher still had fear and concern but not towards each other, since We're All Einstein Here!

I'm reading a number of these texts related to games to get an idea, by reading between the lines, of how people may be thinking about certain things now, which show through when they develop ideas for fantasy or try to present them as realistic in a fictional world. I think that it reveals a lot, and that the way people approach such things can be more stimulating and even honest in some ways than a different category of people working on things academically. All of them, for me, miss the mark, but my understandings are extremely rare now, maybe just me, and the popular culture is much more dominant and influential.

In this thread I'll hopefully go through popular understandings as far as I've assessed them, my own thinking, experiences, and practices, and the various dimensions in life that I think they operate on, like how they impact me psychologically for example as one dimension, possibly the only dimension, and I'll male reference to both ancient and modern things, including popular culture.

Though religious and "magical thinking" still exists all over the world, it is very vaguely dealt with, but I've observed and questioned people a lot over many years now, so may have a better idea than even some other people who specialize in these areas because of all kinds of obstructions and confusing factors they need to maneuver through, whereas I am all about extreme honesty and total disregard of interference from political factors and trying to keep exposed my own prejudices and bias and alien background that gives me a unique approach with these things. Plus I am not like them, not a standard theist of the same nature as most, not a non-theist, or an atheist, but most like a theist if one doesn't get into the nitty gritty of how different my thinking may be from others when it comes to a much more fleshed out theological concept, though functionally it is the same as anyone saying they worship anything and perceive certain things, probably much more rarely or never everything, as responses or acts of whatever they are claiming is their God or are their Gods, but they have no reason or justification for saying any of that really, it is just that they like saying it, and that isn't quite the same as why I ever claim anything that I do, even though there may be some element of just wanting to, there are meant to be reasons which appear strong to me that justify my views and ways of explaining and understanding reality.

I may use the Malar thread instead for another element, which is my gothic fascination with aberrant minority groups of people, like those with fetishes, phobias, manias, and who pursue various strategies in a social context and to do with identity and displays of "self" and their bodies or forms, in real life, in digital spaces, and through text, and possibly also in their minds. For example, it is really interesting to me the ways in which "furries", the people who dress up as animals and have anthropomorphic animal representations of themselves, don't seem to actually fit well with the "totems" they tend to choose, nor do they even focus on the animals in the way more average or normal people might, like focusing on their cute looks, their fluffiness so giving a tactile aspect to liking them, instead these people seem to me to be approaching animals and their performance as animals in a way which is much more strange and foreign seeming, so the study of that and all kinds of "abnormal psychology" is of interest to me. Even though my beliefs and statements and understandings may be rare, due to being much more thought about and developed and taken seriously than perhaps many others, I still think of myself as the epitome of sanity, stability, humanity, and true nature, with nothing at all unusual about my thinking, it is always the truest, the most real, aware of the bottom line, willing to really pierce issues, and to be honest about myself too, exposing every extremity or possible extremity. So where a lot of people seem to want to claim to be "weird", and maybe they really are, I take pride in being my standard for absolute sanity and straight edge, unaltered, hyper-normality, and humorously the only one left, making me the abnormal one apparently in this upside down hellscape that yas come about over the years.

I'm fascinated by the way that minds may work, and how I suspect they work in others, but especially mine which I have the most clear access to.

Among the various "fictional" God(s) that I bring up, and many I don't, and among those that come up in my reading, I am interested in what it is about some as compared to others that I end up liking and preferring in their descriptions and other aspects. Sometimes I don't like what people are saying or outright deny what they are inventing, but continue to prefer the thing they referred to anyway, disregarding anything I didn't like. In other cases, I dislike so much about whatever they are saying that I can't accept it at all, or believe it is totally worthless and of no interest.

Other times it is not a fictional deity but some other kind of character that still functions symbolically as something to draw inspiration and energy from, to feel energized by the idea and focus and devotion to aspects of the ideas brought up in association with such.

These are both simple and complex things, sometimes difficult to predict, like what will I like or not like, what will hit the spot or not.

There is also the dimension of what I deem worshipful and what I take as self-referential, like which things seem more like me specifically.

At times, there is an overlap, where the fictional deity and a fictional character, maybe particularly devoted to that deity, embodies aspects of the themes and I feel those all are or can be self-referential or embodied by me and me in devotion to that aspect and those themes which I connect to whatever name or ideas together, sometimes not even necessarily mentioned in any text, but which seem evident to me and are justified in various explicable ways.

I do not believe most people today, possibly ever, have so rich a spiritual experience or way of interpreting information and being in constant spiritual thinking. After speaking to lots of people throughout the years from all around the world of a whole gamit of ages and backgrounds and socio-economic levels, people in general have never developed this way of looking at things and thinking about anything, but they still seem to get very un-reasoned and vague touches that seem to be similar things, lile in their preferences potentially linking to some aspect of their own personality. Though there are the vast majority of people considering themselves at the very least "spiritual", they, from asking them in detail about things, seem to have no connections to anything I would consider deep or meaningful, and are extremely similar to most Atheists or "non-spiritual" people, with only the slightest differences, mainly that one or the other is willing to say or suggest things that one or the other might not, and vice versa.

There are certain things I connect to and seem to have an affinity to, and others which I practically despise and hate to see, and then some which I might lean towards or away from but are never as prominent or focused upon as others.

As far as I am aware, and with the way things seem to be working, I never really chose these things consciously, the preferences that led to this or that choice or pursuit were coming from something I was not consciously deciding and controlling, it was before I could ever even think to like this or that deliberately, and no one really thinks like that anyway, it isn't even possible to truly and properly and deeply decide to like something that you weren't already inclined towards even making the decision to do such a thing, though there may be people in the habit of lying to themselves about things die to initially pursuing something for some other reason connected to it that they then forgot or got lost in while pretending.

I am, as far as I'm aware, safe from such since I'm not trying to get anything from anyone or get in with some group or impress people, I am very much alone with my thinking and religion and I'm not interested in leading cults either, though I do have interest in people who seem like they might be open to being inspired by my rare and unique mixture of seriousness and freedom when it comes to spirituality, and especially that they might want to be sincere and notice or interpret things more mystically as their experience being generated by what I call God. I have severe doubts that anyone can even register what I mean when that word is brought up though, and that their sayings and understandings will be different and only roughly, superficially, and functionally the same, while if asked to explain things they would not be able to give any proper explanation and even if they do, they would most likely, I suspect, be believing in something like themselves, even if it remains vague and abstracted and invisible. They'll say things that make it clear to me that they are more attached to things like dimensions, distances, space, matter, all the stuff that seems real to them, as compared to me, who acknowledges those things but I insist that we have no access to such things as they may believe, only what can be considered like flat layer of our own experience at any moment, so the rest of the things people may more strongly believe in, are more conceptual. It is like a completely inverted way of thinking, since people put further in the forefront the things they consider real, and put back things which they consider immaterial and conceptual, but I put in the forefront as the real material the things they consider immaterial and conceptual, so for example "visual perception", more specifically mine alone, which is all I have access to, is more important to me than what I consider conceptual, which is what we are saying we are seeing and others in our experience may agree with us, but I believe they think what is being seen, and they are seeing a different thing if theyvare seeing at all, is the object and it is there and it is real and that, which is all conceptual to me, which is all unverifiable as that, and inaccessible always, is put ahead in their minds and behind in my mind. When I communicate to people, they are able to understand what I am saying but they have a totally different and reversed approach to what they understand is real or conceptual. I still operate like anyone else, but there is no reason for me to believe anyone thinks like I do and processes information similarly, they think this stuff is substantial and that depth is something real, these are solid things over there, rather than that its a flat layer, its up against my eyes no matter how far it is, and I don't mean that literally either since I am the flat layer only, there are no eyes or body except conceptually in my actual experience.

God can be said to be everything I can't take credit for, and really I can't take credit for anything, not what I experience or what appears to my senses, that it appears, that it changes, nothing.

The way I see things, what people call "chance", and that they "by chance" ended up a Christian or not, was never up to them, even if they converted. Similarly, that I have accepted many more aspects and acknowledgements towards what I consider to be God than maybe amy others ever really have been able to in history, even those with supposedly many hundreds of or thousands of supposed deities in their cultures, which I don't believe anyone can really do anything much with pragmatically when there are do many, plus when they are given subordinate or shared status as different, cut off, entities like we view ourselves or other distinct objects, they are not being properly dealt with in my view, but whatever the case may be about people and what they may have thought, as far as we know, people can only apparently hold so many thoughts in their mind and are even more limited in their physical actions moment to moment, and did not likely look to fictions with as much seriousness, but possibly may have been more likely to until more recently, like even in the case of fully knowing that something is a fiction and taking it seriously or making something more out of it.

What Christianity led and still leads people to do is to be wasteful through their skepticism and scoffing, so that everything is taken for granted and put away, that there are so many more "false Gods", like how now it is called "Disinformation", and very little ultimately which is true or useful, all the while highlighting and putting to the forefront what there is every reason to believe is wholly false, whether religious or "official" like the propaganda on the media or the very limited curated expression or representation of any life or supposedly real thing.

We are, from people particularly, given only lies as the truth, and the people can't see the truth in the "lies" that are their fictions, which to me seem to expose more truth and useful symbols than their very useless seeming overt truths, like any of their "footage" or expressed sentiments or self-reporting. They have entire lives, while contributing to cutting others short, to think about things, but what they do instead seems to be to read and recite what they can maybe gather from collections of words from other people who tried to or are said to have thought about things, and scarcely understanding them, they think that is sufficient. Even if they somehow deeply or by chance happened to perfectly understand these people from entirely different backgrounds and contexts and languages with different associations and references common to them, that would still not be what I think is necessary, which is that they use the other parts of their mind besides memory.

People read words, and then they relate those words to meanings, and make sense of the words with meanings in relation to each other in sentences. They relate those to others sometimes to say "this is what so and so said" and "this is what it means because this is what these words kean and how they are used in other cases and in other cases by this person whose words they are said to be". So what? Then you might hear more "this is what I think", but don't be too sure that means much of anything either, because they are not necessarily putting forward any true assessment of their thoughts, just how they have processed and calculated arranged words and word choices, and then they re-arrange and find other words, so it is like:

2+2+2+2=8
4+4=8
"I think instead that"
2x2=4
2+2=4 "and within 8 there is also 6, lest we forget.

If one carefully looks at what people are saying and expressing, especially seeming these days online when they are pressured to start communicating and engaging eith all sorts of things very prematurely and sometimes without even a great grasp on any language, let alone English, which might not even be their primary language that they think thoughts in, they can often be caught as using no other faculty besides memory and mixing and matching and re-ordering words and replacing words, and they get away with this and are approved of by people and this becomes their habit, they may even think they are smart themselves, and they continue to do this, never taking any time to develop anything that I'd consider real intelligence. In that way, even A.I. doing something similar can seem more impressive because of drawing from more synonyms potentially and having a lot more speed bringing up things and re-ordering them.

When I copy paste lots of stuff, I am not doing that or meaning to do that at all, but I likely can not easily communicate how I m using those collections of words and ideas, but by reading them, what will or should occur is that things pop out, one is bombarded with words followed by ideas and images and the one processing and being processed themselves through all that is meant to keep connecting back to the theme and pulling out and making use of the mist useful ideas, sentences, and concepts, discarding anything that they can't make any use of.

For example, I copy pasted and linked to things about "Mind Flayers" when writing about "The State", and connections are supposed to be made, but not just in trying to understand what I am suggesting by comparisons, but also thinking through it and seeing if it is right or true or not, and why not, and what is more real about it and less real or not at all real, so to actually interact with it, struggle with it, move through it, reach questions or obstacles and challenges, figure out answers. Modern people just immediately blank out, they are too busy to think, and what are they so busy with? Not thinking. They primarily remember, and that is only "intelligence" in the sense of memory at the very least, like collecting information, but barely do they even play any sort of matching game with it to bring up other things or expand upon things.

There is so much comparison and criticism going on also, like through the financial motivators getting people to present such material constantly to forming minds and language learners, and it is made a primary way of communication, yet the people rushing out the content that people are sponging up as common parlance are not able to really say much, they give very half-hearted and rushed, direct associations, and the material they bring up is itself vapid and hyper-literal and so provides little mental stimulation or practice, brain-dead stuff like "the sky is big, and it looks blue" and nothing more expected of it, like blue associated with sadness even, just straight up that, "you're a bitch", when bitch has lost much extra reference and just plainly has become the direct word for an annoying, rude, unlikeable, whiny, aggressive, irritating person, and is much funnier or stimulating when applied to less direct, common, or expected things or situations.

As creative and thinking constantly about so much as I am and do, the modern English speaking world and all those who look up to it and follow it, is becoming barren and are becoming bereft of even baby's first words for creativity or creative thinking. It scares the sh*t out of me about even the near future and makes me not so worried about however my lifespan may be if I'm spared the progressive deterioration of literally everything everywhere. We are also constantly asked to address the stupidest people pushed to the forefront of the one place we are going to find anything, the internet, search engines like G**gle, and Y**T*be, the video search engine with music too. We are asked to counter people who were never worth hearing from in the first place. Any creatives and really smart people often seem to be gone, extinct, never existing in the first place according to modern people, or pushed way into the backgrounds. Many are so specialized that they are ultimately wasting everyone's time too, "tools" in a near literal sense.

I can not easily find any interesting people or dialogue anywhere, but can easily find endless means to roll my eyes out of my skull at how obnoxiously bland every in your face comment or prominent voice appears to be in what is brought to the forefront, and we can only search so deep into the repetition, which could easily be resolved by an algorithm that shows only the earliest example of some text which is then nearly repeated, and puts as the next result what has all that and more or the most, or puts that first perhaps, but then quickly puts way back results which are just later repetitions which are less comprehensive, and instead puts up more unique information that is dated earliest in one category and latest in another, with focus on what is unique and new and copious. Instead, we get basically one result, tons of repetition of it, and things that are unique or different or older and first are pushed so far back or even totally unavailable in the search results people are relying on, and which has given whoever controls the information a profound impact on everyone trying to learn anything, and limiting their knowledge severely, since they can't collect much different information, they collect very little overall, so they can make less references or connections, and might end up so inundated with repetitions that they forget about things they even knew and might have made connections between, because our own minds might operate similarly to search engines in some ways.

Also concerning:

I don't see very many ads in real life anywhere, but I've been having dreams like ads, which I've never had before.

So for the sake of "paranoid fiction" at the very least, I wouldn't put it past these soulless brain-killers to be testing technologies to try to influence people at all times, waking and sleeping:

https://the-media-image.com/insights/ma ... ch-report/

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm ... id=4361477

When people come for "sacred space" and "freedoms" to try to "order" it with advertisements and State propaganda, when will the people accept the necessity to do what has to be done. They are taking and have taken all physical space and resources and have said it belongs to one State or another, all of which are under The State, and now are coming from mental space too. Anyone who laughingly works at such terror is worse than any witch, and needs to be sent away in such a way that they can not continue and such technologies are forever destroyed, even the knowledge of how to make such things.

The killing of all creativity and spamming everywhere with mind-numbing garbage is as good as any other of the numerous reasons that the people should bring to mind:

"
Whigs especially opposed regime change efforts by adherents of Jacobitism, a movement of legitimist monarchists which promised freedom of religion and civil rights to all outside the Established Churches, devolution in the United Kingdom, linguistic rights for minority languages, and many other political reforms, and which shared a substantial overlap with and heavily influenced both early Toryism and what is now termed traditionalist conservatism. While in power, Whig politicians frequently denounced all their political opponents and critics as "Jacobites" or "dupes of Jacobites".

What would it matter, all I say, except to myself, if no one can even understand what I am saying at all? It is already practically there in relation to a great many people.

Can language attrition occur if I'm around many people who don't speak english well?
(Unsure if this is the correct place to post this, so please let me know if there's a better place to ask about this)

I work with a couple of people who one I have to speak semi-broken english to/ listen to broken or incorrect english be spoken back to me, and another who is mostly fluent in english but has a heavy accent and forgets words a lot.

In these scenarios I've started to unconsciously say things like, "I go to bathroom, ok?" or " These things are really not good" almost mirroring how my coworker speaks. Then afterwards I'm like why did I say it like that. Other times I start to forget how to say something correctly and begin stuttering or saying "uhhhh", so I'll opt for the version that isn't grammatically correct for time's sake.

I also experience this phenomenon with my friends whose first language isn't english. I try to speak in a way that they can understand, unless they ask for me to speak correctly so they can learn proper english grammar.

I've also developed a new habit of communicating through nonverbal communication like pointing or using other gestures and saying "mm" or "unh" to indicate that I need/want something or to tell people I need something to be done. I also picked this up from the people at my workplace.

All these habits have started to seep into my everyday way of talking to people in my life and they sometimes poke fun at me thinking I'm just speaking shorter to be funny, but I'm just so used to speaking a certain way with my coworkers in a fast paced environment so that they understand, and also my friends, that I almost feel like I'm forgetting how to speak correctly at times.

Is language attrition occurring here or is it just a weird mimicking thing I do to make communication easier for them?

I doubt your experiencing language attrition and more likely experiencing language mirroring/converging/mimicking. The chameleon effect. Whatever you want to call it.

Pretty much you have empathy with these people and a desire to assimilate/communicate so that leads you to take on their speech forms as part of your social reciprocity (back and forth or give and take). Since you’re with them a lot, it can mean in other settings it takes you awhile to reset.

When taken to extremes, it can seem weird, but, overall, reflecting people’s speech back to them is a positive form of social bonding and leads to better communication. I think I remember that there can be an opposite effect between people who are purposely trying not to bond (whether due to hate, social caste, discrimination, etc) and then emphasize their language differences to make their accents markedly more different than they would normally be.

I recall when I lived in Japan and was both teaching English and studying and speaking Japanese, that my English became broken and simpler, even speaking with native English speakers. I was speaking differently to native English speakers as opposed to non native, so I knew my English hadn't devolved, but I clearly remember it all took on a different form, and it took a couple months back in the states for it to reset.

was speaking differently to native English speakers as opposed to non native, so I knew my English hadn't devolved, but I clearly remember it all took on a different form, and it took a couple months back in the states for it to reset.

I see. I was wondering if I was losing touch with my native language with no bonus of learning a second language, lol! This explanation makes much more sense than language attrition.

Of course I wouldn't just bounce back to speaking normally right away after spending 11 hour days at my workplace. Aaaah...I hope my coworkers know I care for them, haha!

Thanks

The last part of your comment sounds exactly like what happened in Italy. It's a fairly common thing, sadly. People use language as a powerful tool

The overall situation sounds more like code-switching than attrition.

All these habits have started to seep into my everyday way of talking to people in my life

This is anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt.

I've noticed that L1 English language teachers in Japan sometimes wind up with the 'careful' pronunciations that they use at work, e.g. Americans saying "pity" with t rather than ɾ. In one case, the speaker even had occasional e and o as a monophthong.

My partner mentioned it could be code-switching since I spend so much time with these people and only them for most of the week. I have to adapt to their language abilities if I want to maintain an efficient work environment.

Thank you for offering this as an explanation!

I lived in Ukraine for 2 years and was the only foreigner (or non-former Soviet foreigner) at my workplace. My environment certainly affected how I spoke and wrote in a few ways:

I spoke simpler and avoided most slang, metaphor, figures of speech

Speaking Russian in most of my daily life outside of teaching or interacting with the few colleagues who spoke English affected how I spoke English as well, and if I were to speak English with someone who wasn't fluent, I tended to choose my words carefully so that I could translate into Russian if needed.

These affected how I wrote, too. I didn't really notice it at the time, but a few years afterward, I found a comment I had submitted to an online news outlet (in English) that was published and it was written like it was an entry on the Simple English Wikipedia site. I wrote a lot for myself at the time and emailed family a lot so I don't think those were affected, but if I was writing for an unknown public, even English-speaking, I wrote simpler and at a lower level, basically.

I also try to avoid slang, metaphors, and other figures of speech when speaking to my non-native english speaking coworkers and friends. They laugh cause they have no idea what I'm saying, lol!

I picked up the dialect of church Belisha my parents spoke when younger so makes sense to me

And then working in London which is more international I’ve had to simplify my English’s and stop using expressions

What is “church Belisha”? All I’m getting on Google is a type of streetlight.

Consider how quickly you can pick up new slang, or how people unconsciously mimic each other’s accent, even conversation to conversation. Language is a social construction, so is no surprise we pick up each other’s idiosyncrasies.

I’m not sure I would call it attrition—it’s all probably still in there somewhere.

oh i totally do this with my non-native coworkers and i don't even mean to. i guess that shows that you and i are naturals for communication. we automatically adapt the way we speak so that we can communicate better. i wouldn't call that attrition.

Yes, I relate to this! I with non-native speaker husband and I started dropping verbs and “s” at the end of verbs and definite articles. I don’t mean to… it’s like a reflex.

When I worked in Mexican kitchen, all of my coworkers were new immigrants from Mexico, who didn't speak English very well. We developed a form of communication very similar to what you're describing, and it really worked well for us. It was a mix of simple English and Spanish. (I grew up in Texas, so it was easy for me to grasp) Eventually, we got to be really good friends, and they felt comfortable asking me questions about the English language, and having me correct them. They teased me and called me their favourite English teacher.

I had never heard of "language attrition" until now, because to me, it was just a way to make communication easier for those just learning a new language. It became comfortable and comforting for me to speak to them this way.
"

It wouldn't have helped them all that much even if they had the culture of modern English language organizing their thinking if it had already picked up extreme hyper-literalism and that way of seeing the world which is the inverse of mine.

I'm putting an overwhelming task ahead of myself, to look through a lot of fictional deities, as well as the demons of the Goetia again, and to see what, if any, and how, in what ways, they may stick out to me, so I'll be going through what might start numbering close to 1000, more or else, from all kinds of popular fiction, and the Goetic Demons have become increasingly popular and widespread in the last few years. I'll also be looking at pantheons from all kinds of cultures and looking for more obscure entities and correspondences mentioned in those. Everything will be treated in relatively the same way, giving no particular precedence or greater importance to things based on their age, how they have been treated in the past or are thought of now, or in what contexts they have been brought up, they will all be treated as candidates for useful epithets of what I consider The One Power and the various domains and areas and related ideas that connect to those areas or were connected by people and more interestingly to me the ways in which things may seem to connect to those concepts or appear in relation to them today in our modern world with our contemporary imagery and media.

If any appear particularly prominent, then I'll focus more on those for longer entries in this thread or other threads they seem to fot in or match with, otherwise they will get other threads brought up which will be focused on those ideas where there may be a hint already that such may be appropriate, or totally new threads if I run out of older threads.

The reason I emphasize the One Power thing, and there are lots of reasons, but one reason is that these are all being taken as "whatever happens to be, or actually is, whether we understand it properly or not, the singular most responsible and greatest top power which everything else relies upon", so that none of these are inferior to any other, each is treated the same and thought of as the most worthy and honored with the highest appelations and true praise as really "whatever" is "actually" best, rather than claims being made about any particular "this" or "that", like "this thing" or "that person". So Botis, Zon-Kuthon, Allah, and Endovelicus are all various epithets and references to the same that is credited, or which I credit, as whatever is responsible for anything and everything in particular, but these names may bring to mind different aspects or attributes and symbols and ways of relating to the same singular power that I say is itself non-information which is more like intelligence that is action, responsible for any and all change, and not like how we think of ourselves mostly or any objects or creatures, which it is responsible for generating in our experience. Thus, one never has to "choose", there are no "false Gods", just false, nonsensical, or misleading ideas about Gods or symbols that can confuse people, particularly when taken too anthropomorphically and literally, but even making things too overly abstract misses the mark in my opinion, as one may start to deny the reality that this is the only intelligence in existence, which any intelligence we perceive relies upon to see to think anything at all at any moment in our experience, including our own understandings and thoughts and misunderstandings and perceptions.

Added in 29 minutes 21 seconds:
The focus is also on what comes through whatever about these names seems that it could be applied to the apparent reality, the truth and what seems true about these, otherwise and also what seems useful in some way, like inspirational or empowering things about these, and if they seem productive in being part of the appearance of signs that would seem unlikely to have appeared except that they seem relevant and useful to relate to these epithets and symbols.

Many of the current things, like from games, have a lot of inspirational, motivational, and creative value, and can contribute to more colorful ways of thinking that can vivify the experience and keep one feeling mentally stimulated. People cut themselves off from such things because they don't start out with any reasonable way of thinking which can justify such a practice, and they prioritize things that are at this point quite vague and abstract and of not that much overall value, taking for granted and ignoring all manner of particulars, like spiders or snakes or whatever else, even the sky and air, the water and liquids, the Earth and solids, and their whole raily experience is devoid of any spirituality, all their actions are just as is and nothing more is put into them or thought about, so even most religious people might be practically atheistic most of the time, if not really always because of having no strong reasoning behind what they say they believe, and in many cases only say they believe and do nothing much more than saying this or that and not worshipping anything most of the time or ever.

Added in 1 hour 11 minutes 12 seconds:
Another exploration that I'm interested in is exploring which names and associated imagery or themes I am less interested in and why that may be, and who, if anyone may be interested more in such things and why, since I feel that such would imply that they are overall aligned to a very different set of tastes and underlying ideas, which I'd also like to conjecture about potentially. There are also people attracted to things that I may prefer who approach them in entirely different ways and like aspects and potentially fantasizing about things I would consider totally unacceptable and unforgivable, since I am very strict about human normality, decency, "civility", restraint, balance, equity, and treating even animals, insects, plants, even things deemed inanimate such as rocks and books, with a lot of grace, gentleness, and softness, except for perverse people and things they may make or weapons they may use, in which case I believe that it can be justified to defend oneself and fight against anything which can be clearly and fairly reasoned as harmful and dangerous, but never acceptable can be things like terrorizing children or animals or harming people who haven't done anything.

In my opinion, the wickedest, and demonstrably so, of all texts is the most popular one, the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, and the Qur'an, which very much seems to sterilize it, is the most clear and easy to put towards many purposes, including encouraging clear morality that seems appropriate for human beings without going into any excess, and understanding things, while limiting chances for things to go bad or bad things to be justified, contrary to the propaganda. In my opinion it offers a very different religion than either of the others people relate it to since it uses similar names of the characters, who are depicted quite differently at times. The other religions often seem fine, but have a lot more opportunities for people to become confused. I also think that it is among the most convenient to use for my own theology, but I'm very strongly against the much more imitative and not so great texts made after the Qur'an, like the Hadith collections, though they still don't reach the horror levels of the Old Testament in my opinion, even though they seem to draw a lot more from the people of those religions. Hindu writings and Buddhist writings and many others can be of use too, I tend to prefer anything that can be used in my particular way, and I dislike any post-Christian or hyper-anthropomorphic type ideas or even Chaoskampf ideas that pit powers against each other, as the central enemies seem to be humans, particularly those, these days at least, seemingly corrupted by traditions like those found in the Bible or their cultures influenced by it, even if they are atheists or have adopted other religions, it seems difficult for many people to get free of the way those things have made them think, which whether they claim to be theistic or atheistic or non-theistic, they seem to be totally sacreligious and anti-spiritual in reality, and some of the worst seems to come from basically any "Modernized" and "Westernized" people who are communicating in the modern world with modern people, which seems to basically encompass just about everyone. One of the ideas they would all have is that things from fiction are "false" and "false gods", while even their concepts, whether they insist upon them or refer to things they reject, are much more false due to lacking any proper backing or reference to reality. I can only assume that maybe somewhere out there are spiritual people with similar beliefs as my own, at least barely, though I've never encountered practically anyone among thousands upon thousands of people I've communicated with or otherwise have seen attempting to communicate things about themselves and their beliefs.

Well, I think that’s wrong or, at least, not exactly right. That’s why I wrote Old Gods, New Tricks and its sequel Let Sleeping Gods Lie. In both books, a young girl called Trixie dos Santos goes on adventures with a band of unruly trickster gods: Exú, Loki, Monkey King and many others. She lives in a world just like ours, but she encounters magic and legend everywhere she goes.

Growing up, I was obsessed with myths and legends from all over the world. I read book after book on the subject from my local library, and believed that the gods and creatures I was learning about were all around us. I’m much older now, and sadly I haven’t met a selkie or a griffin yet (I’d probably not be around to write this if that last one had happened) but I still see myth and magic everywhere I go.

Over the past twenty years or so, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to travel to ancient, sacred places: Chichén Itza, the Great Pyramid, Stonehenge, Delos and many others, all heavy with the presence of thousands of years of belief and ritual. These are extraordinary places, but it’s in the small things, those closer to home, that I feel the grip of legend is closer to us.

Magic is there. In all the little beliefs and superstitions some of us still hold: knocking on wood, placing horseshoes over the door, and saucers of cream in the kitchen. The memories of old gods who haven’t left us: green men and oak leaves on churches; our days named after the Sun, Moon, Woden and Saturn.

All those tiny moments, images and actions are echoes of beliefs that have been part of humanity’s lives for thousands of years. We’re in an age of technology and knowledge, and that’s all for the better, but there’s still a little bit of space in all of us for the unknown, the magical, the absurd.

That’s the world I wanted to create in Let Sleeping Gods Lie. A world where all the magic (and a lot of the mayhem) left the places where it had been sleeping and spilled into our daily lives.

What would the school run be like with gnomes and sphinxes about? And travelling by plane in a sky full of dragons and harpies? What about coming across trolls under bridges and kumiho in the woods?  Quite scary, is probably the answer, but also full of fun and adventure.

I hope readers join me on a journey through this world of myth and magic, and that it helps them find a little bit of both in theirs.

Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition
edit
There are over 100 deities in the Greyhawk setting, and when creating Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition Wizards of the Coast selected a subset to become iconic deities. They selected and altered deities to correspond to "iconic" aspects of core D&D. Most core deities are human deities; except for the chief gods of the demihuman races. Certain aspects of the deities were altered to make them more generic – for example: the "Core" Heironeous favors the longsword (in order to make the favored weapon of the "God of Chivalry" more traditionally knight-like), as contrasted with the original "Greyhawk" Heironeous, who favors the battleaxe.

The designation of "greater" vs. "intermediate" comes from Legends & Lore (1990). It is not used in any edition of the Player's Handbook, but it is used in Deities and Demigods (2002) and various v3.5 Edition materials.

Other pantheons
edit
The third edition version of Deities & Demigods contains only four pantheons: a condensed Greyhawk pantheon meant for insertion into any game world ("Core D&D Pantheon"), the Greek mythos and heroes ("Olympian Pantheon"),[4] the Egyptian mythos ("Pharaonic Pantheon"), and the Norse mythos ("Asgardian Pantheon"). The third edition version of the book also discusses in detail how one would go about the creation of their own pantheon, as well as individual gods, for use in Dungeons & Dragons.[citation needed]

Three systems of alternative faiths were described in the third edition Deities and Demigods book:

The Faith of the Sun is a fictional, monotheistic religion presented in and constructed according to the guidelines given for monotheistic religions in 3rd Edition Deities and Demigods. Its singular deity is Taiia, greater goddess of creation, destruction, mortal life and death.[citation needed]
Following the Light is a fictional dualistic religion presented in and constructed according to the guidelines given for dualistic religions in 3rd Edition Deities and Demigods. It consists of two, polar-opposite deities: Elishar (intermediate deity of positive energy, light and prophecy) and Toldoth (intermediate deity of negative energy, darkness and destruction).[citation needed]
The faith of Dennari is a fictional mystery cult, presented in and constructed according to the guidelines given for mystery cults in 3rd Edition Deities & Demigods. Its singular deity is Dennari, lesser goddess of earth, liberation and suffering.[citation needed]
Nondeity powers
edit
Similar to monster powers, these are not true deities but very powerful extraplanar beings. These however do not even profess to be gods (though many still have designs on godhood).

Fiendish entities
edit
Demon lords of the Abyss
edit
The single unifying feature of all demon lords (also called demon princes) is the inherent control over part of the infinite layers of The Abyss. Only the first 666 layers of The Abyss are generally known, and of those only a small fraction of the princes of those layers are a part of the D&D cosmology.

Celestial paragons
edit
The celestial paragons are powerful unique outsiders of the Upper Planes. They are to the celestials as the archdevils are to the devils and the demon lords are to demons.

Archon paragons
edit
The celestial paragons of the archons are known collectively as the Celestial Hebdomad. They rule the layers of the Plane of Mount Celestia.

Barachiel
ruler of the Silver Heaven of Lunia, the bottom layer of Celestia.

Faerinaal
oversees the defense of the Court of Stars and liberates eladrins captured by evil forces.
Gwynharwyf
Queen Morwel's loyal champion and a barbarian of unparalleled ferocity.
Morwel
the ruler of the eladrins and the Court of Stars.
Guardinal paragons

The celestial paragons of the guardinals are collectively known as Talisid and the Five Companions. They hail from the plane of Elysium.

Bharrai
the matriarch of the Ursinals, resides on Eronia, the second layer of Elysium.
Kharash
the paragon of Lupinals.

Talisid
the most powerful of Leonals. Spends most of his time on Amoria, the topmost layer of Elysium.
Vhara
the duchess of the Equinals, resides on Amoria.
Archomentals
edit
Archomentals are powerful exemplary beings of the Elemental Planes and the rulers of the elementals.[45] Although they are not truly rulers of their planes, archomentals like to consider themselves as much and often grant themselves regal titles like Prince or Princess. They are compared in the source material to the archfiends or celestial paragons, and are considered to be the elemental equivalent of such beings.

Evil archomentals
edit
The evil archomentals are collectively known as the Princes of Elemental Evil. At their introduction in Fiend Folio (1981) reviewer Ed Greenwood considered them "worthy additions to any campaign".[46] The five most famous are:

Cryonax, prince of evil cold creatures.
Imix, prince of evil fire creatures.
Ogrémoch, prince of evil earth creatures.
Olhydra, princess of evil water creatures.
Yan-C-Bin, prince of evil air creatures.
Good archomentals
edit
The good archomentals are collectively known as the Elemental Princes of Good. The four most famous are:

Ben-hadar, prince of good water creatures.
Chan, princess of good air creatures.
Entemoch and Sunnis, prince and princess of good earth creatures.
Zaaman Rul, prince of good fire creatures.
Lesser evil archomentals
edit
Three other archomentals are first mentioned in Manual of the Planes (TSR, 1987).

Bwimb, prince of ooze creatures.
Chlimbia, prince of magma creatures. In The Inner Planes (TSR, 1998) he is described as evil tyrant.
Ehkahk, prince of smoke creatures.
Slaad Lords
edit
The Slaad Lords are the de facto rulers of the Slaadi race and the plane of Limbo. Although true to their chaotic nature they often do not appear anything like other Slaadi.

Chourst, lord of randomness.
Rennbuu, lord of colors.
Ssendam, lord of madness.
Wartle, domain unknown.
Ygorl, lord of entropy.
Primus
edit
Primus is the leader of the modrons and is the epitome of order, and possesses god-like powers in the game.[47] Artist Tony DiTerlizzi became fascinated by Primus and the other modrons when he got the challenge to redesign them from their first edition appearance for the Planescape campaign setting.[48] Reviewer Scott Haring found the process successful as the "once-silly Modrons" were "given a new background and purpose that makes a lot more sense".[49]

Titans
edit
"Titans are closer to the well spring of life and thus experience more pronounced emotion including Deity-like fits of rage. In ages past some rebelled against the deities themselves..."[50]

The Lady of Pain
edit
The Lady of Pain is an enigmatic being who oversees the city of Sigil[43]: 253  in the plane of the Outlands. Almost nothing is known about her; her origin, her race, her motives and her level of power are all obscure, although she is sometimes shown to have absolutely immense power. The Lady of Pain refuses to tolerate anyone who worships her, killing those who do so. Again; virtually nothing is known about her, apart from the fact that she has the power to slay gods who displease her.

Vestiges
edit
These entities are outside the boundary of life, death, and undeath. They are untouchable by even the most powerful deities although they can be summoned and used by the weakest mortal through pact magic and binding. Her name is derived from the Ioun stones.

edit
Amoth – God of Justice and Mercy. Killed by the demon princes Orcus, Demogorgon, and Rimmon.
Aoskar – God of Portals. Killed by the Lady of Pain.
Gorellik – God of Hunting, Beasts, and Gnolls. Killed by the demon lord Yeenoghu.[51]: 10
He Who Was – A god of good and possibly peace, he was killed by his archangel and exarch, Asmodeus. Implied to be the creator of humans, the devils wiped out all knowledge of his name, which they fear is powerful enough to revive him if it is ever spoken aloud again. The Nine Hells were originally his astral domain, now a prison for Asmodeus and his devils. A holy chalice belonging to him is mentioned in Divine Power.
Khala – Goddess of Winter, wife of Zehir, Khala sought to trap the natural world in an eternal winter to secure power over it. Her plans convinced the primal spirits to expel gods and primordials from the world. She was killed by the other gods in a conflict called the War of Winter, who afterwards made a compact to balance darkness and light (Zehir and Pelor), and the natural seasons (Corellon, Pelor and Sehanine). Her power over winter was taken by the Raven Queen.
Lakal – God of Healing and Mercy who was also her own Astral Dominion. She was an impersonal deity who communicated with her chosen people, the Quom, through "ecstatic moments of personal communion." She extolled mercy and urged her followers to dedicate themselves to pursuits that benefited the whole cosmos. Lakal's death was accidental – when Bahamut battled Nihil, the Primordial of nothingness, the pair crashed into Lakal. Bahamut was able to use the distraction to slay Nihil, but the primordial's death throes also caused Lakal to explode. The surviving quom now roam the planes, retrieving any shards of Lakal that they can find, including those unknowingly consumed by living creatures. Such creatures, including humanoids and player characters, are considered collateral damage in the quom's quest to restore Lakal. Ironically, even if the quom succeed in their quest, the restored Lakal would be disgusted with their methods.[52]
Maglubiyet – God of Goblinoids. Defeated by Bane.
Nerull – God of Death and the Dead. Killed by The Raven Queen.
Tuern – God of War. Killed by Bane.
Nusemnee – Nusemnee was the daughter of Zehir. When she failed to assassinate a high priest of Pelor, she was abandoned and then mortally wounded by a paladin's holy blade. Expecting only death, she was surprised when the high priest healed her, showing her compassion and forgiveness. Intrigued, she decided to honor a promise to the high priest and aid him in his holy quest until a time that she could save his life in turn. Nusemnee thus became a symbol of redemption. When she finally died at the end of the high priest's quest, she rose again, this time as a minor goddess. In this form, she opposed her father by offering redemption to all who would turn away from evil. She was later killed by a poison that could kill anything—even a deity—that was distilled from Zehir's blood.[53]

Nov 23, 2003 14:27:54 Of coarse there are alot of others missing from that list, but nobodies perfect.

Several Planescape web pages I've been to list alot of historical gods(Aztek/Mayan, Sumerian, Celtic) Maybe latter I'll come back with the links to those sights

One Question from someone who doesn't have Manual of the Planes:

Elemental Cold and Paraelemental Ice are the same place right?

Nov 23, 2003 14:39:21 The following was taken from a AGE of Mythology(THe computer game) discussion board, but ALL the information is true. Please disregard the AOM game information

MESOAMERICANS
Mesos: Obviously, gain favor by sacrifice. The sacrifices, since they cause an actual military/economic loss, will mean better myth units and myth techs relative to the other civs.
Units:
Heroes: like AOK, jaguar knights, eagle knights, etc. Also Priests--sacrifical knife attack allows little bit of favor for units not killed at altars, the ones who sacrifice units.

Titan--Tlaltecuhtli
<> Does crush damage, instant kill units around her by swallowing them in her many mouths. Tongues are like tentacles flailing.
Myth: butteflies with skull heads and razor sharp obsidian wings (image of TLAZOLTEOTL), giant ocelots (like leopards who came and ate the giants of the first age), primordial giants (giant aztec knights), feathered serpents, skeleton soldiers from MICTLANTECUHTLE as underworld depicted with dancing skeletons (IIRC).
Storm giant: made of dark clouds, lightning flickers around him. (Story of three storm giants who make lightning and rain)
Tzitzimime--Men and Women made of starlight that giggle like evil children.
<<"The tzitzimime ("Monsters descending from above") were celestial demons in Aztec mythology that continuously threaten to destroy the world. They are said to be the stars that battle the sun each dusk and dawn.">>
Vucub Caquix--giant bird that has special attack of snatching mortals and bringing them back to the altar
<< "In Mayan mythology, Vucub Caquix, Seven Macaw, was a large bird that dwelled on the surface of the world after the flood". >>
Double headed snakes:
<<"Coatlcue was represented as a woman. More often, however, she wore a skirt of snakes, and she had two dragon heads.">>
Dark Messengers--two-headed teleporting men:
<>
Gods:
1. Queztacoatl--Feathered Serpent. Myth units cheaper.
<>
2. Huitzilopochtli--Creator Warrior God. Increase unit damage.
Power--Arrow of the Sun--Sunray strikes area, causing some fire damage.
3. Teztapolitaca--God of Smoking Mirrors. Increases sacrificial power.
Power--Mirage: Selected unit has 1-4 illusionary versions. These have very few hitpoints and their attack does no damage.
nonplayer campaign god:
<>
minor:
---
Tlaloc: rain god, upgrades villagers.
God Power--Hail--great chunks of ice crush buildings and knock all but titans down if they hit. Ice explodes into shards for piercing damage.
CENTEOTL, the corn god. upgrades farms.
Power--Maize. Creates magic farms from which food can be gathered much faster.
CHALCHIUHTLICUE: The goddess of running Water. She was the sister of Tlaloc. Upgrades boats.
Power--River of Jade--jade shards sweep enemy away for some distance, also does piercing damage.
CIHUACAOTYL: a goddess whose roaring signaled War. Upgrades Infantry.
Power: War Cry--triples speed of military production.
EHECATL, the god of wind. Makes boats faster, archers fire father.
Power-Divine Breath: Great gust of wind launches enemies back.
IXTLILTON: the god of Healing, Feasting, and Games. Upgrades warriors through competition.
Power: Petrify--turns group of military or myth units to stone.
MACUILXOCHITL: the god of Music and Dance. Upgrades villagers.
Power: Vibration--buildings begin to vibrate to sonic damage, if destroyed explode causing more damage.
MICTLANTECUHTLE, god of the dead.
Power--Death's Inivitation--hands of bone rise from the ground, grabbing a unit and pulling him to the underworld instantly.
PATECATLl: the god of Medicine. Upgrades priests.
Power: Medicine man--turns one priest into healer who can fire multiple healing rays.
Teoyaomqui: the god of Dead Warriors.
Power--Ghost Knights: Dead Eagle and Jaguar knights return to wreak havoc, can pass through objects. Are simultaneously myth units and heroes. Return to warrior heaven after 30 sec.
Yacatecuhtli: the god of Merchant Adventurers. Market Upgrades.
Power--El Darado--Upgrades Town Center into golden palace, stonger and gold flows continuously.
TLAZOLTEOTL: the goddess of impurity. Upgrades myth units and attacks against enemy temples. Power-Putrefy--Prevents Gathering of Food across map.

Celts:
Favor--Favor is tied to the king and his land, so you have a "pharoah" unit similar to king arthur. The amount of land owned would be determined by circles expanding from the town center. Land owned is the radius that contains your buildings without containing your enemy's.
The king: The king ties into the strength of the land. So long as the king is alive, farms are much more effecient and this can improve with upgrades. Also, the more land owned the better health and attack for the king.
Units:
Myth: Usual medieval stuff, unicorns, dragons, faeries, goblins, etc.
Titan: flaming wickerman (may have been done in Warrior Kings Battles?). Causes fire damage and crush damage.
Heroes--Celtic heroes are either druids or legendary figures. The named heroes have attacks that can have great power, but either are slow to produce or physically weak.
Druids--weak, can't fight well but heal and also empower farms individually. Can convert wild animals.
Cathbadh: Powerful druid. Magic attack against myth units, can summon animals to fight once in awhile.
Cu Cullain: fights with spear, powerful warrior
Math: Sorcerer, special has chance of changing men into animals.
Cu Roi: Sorcerer who can change, for limited time, to random myth unit.
Medb: Female enchantress, attack is like Lampades and can sometimes charm non-myth units in radius around her.
Taliesin: Warrior poet, bard who can boost morale.
Some God Options:
Major Gods--
1. Lugh - <<(Loo) Ireland, Wales; a sun god of all crafts and arts, healing, journeys, prophecy. Son of Cian, a Tuatha De Danann. Of legend, his skills were without end; in Ireland he was associated with ravens; and a white stag as his symbol in Wales. He had a magic spear and otherworldly hounds. His festival was Lughnassadh, or Lunasa.>>
As he was a god skilled in many things, he provides various minor upgrades across the board.
Power: White Hart--Special unit, draws units towards it until killed.
3.Anu - <>
Power--divine herd: gives cattle from the fairy, more meat and can be harvested faster.

Power: Hollow hills. Transport one unit back to starting town center and garrisons it there.

Keeper of the Silver Wheel of Stars, a symbol of time and karma. Her ship, Oar Wheel, carried dead warriors to Emania (Moon-land).>>

Mesopotamians
Campaign Gods (fit into the story somewhere):
Apsu
"The Epic of Creation (Enuma Elish): Tablet I"
He is the underworld ocean, and the begetter of the skies and of the earth. The father of Lahmu, Lahamu, Anshar and Kishar. He could not quell the noise of them or their children. He colluded with his vizier Mummu to silence the gods and allow Tiamat to rest, after Tiamat rejected the idea. Ea found out about his plans, cast a sleeping spell on him and killed him.
(Dalley pp. 232-235, 318)
Tiamat
"The Epic of Creation (Enuma Elish): Tablets I-III"
She is primeval Chaos, bearer of the skies and the earth, mother of Lahmu, Lahamu, Anshar, and of Kishar. Traditionally conceived of as aserpent or dragon of some sort, this idea does not have any basis in the Enuma Elish itself. Within that work her physical description includes, a tail, a thigh, "lower parts" (which shake together), a belly, an udder, ribs, a neck, a head, a skull, eyes, nostrils, a mouth, and lips. She has insides, a heart, arteries, and blood. The clamor of the younger gods disturbed her, but she continued to indulge them. When her husband Apsu and his vizier Mummu suggested that they kill the younger gods, she grew furious, calmed down and rejected the plan. Her restless subservient gods goaded her into action after Apsu is slain. They prepared to wage war against the other gods. As Mother Hubur, the underworld river, who fashions all things, she bore giant snakes with venom for blood, and cloaked dragons with a godlike radiance yet with a terrible visage, for the war. She rallied a horned serpent, a mushussu-dragon, a lahmu-hero, a ugallu-demon, a rabid dog, a scorpion-man, umu-demons, a fish-man, a bull-man, and eleven others underneath her champion and new lover, Qingu. She gave Qingu the Tablet of Destinies to facilitate his command and attack.

Nov 23, 2003 17:12:09 Doesn't "On Hallowed Ground" (TSR 2623) has everything you need? It has the Sumerian powers, Babylonian powers, the Celtic pantheon, Egyptian pantheon, and many more.
Taken from the back of the book:

Written for Dungeon Masters and players, this 192-page, full-color book includes:
* 20 separate pantheons detailing the powers worshipped by humans, demihumans, and monsters (including the deities of the AD&D game worlds). Zeus, Sung Chiang, Gruumsh, Takhisis - they're all here, based on chant from Legends & Lores, the Deities & Demigods book, Monster Mithology, and AD&D game world sources.
* New ideas and rules for priest characters on the planes.
* Tips on creating, visiting, and surviving divine realms.
* A look at powers favored by factions and planewalkers.
* Comprehensive appendices listing gods by pantheons and portfolio.
* Full-color maps of realms glorious and infernal.

ok the idea here is to list where all the gods that we can think of (out of any sorce) and powers (like orcus and such) and any domains they can give (thats the second part I can do that if need be).

Just wanted to ask, are you putting in gods from non-canon sources (that is, gods that don't appear in a (A)D&D product)? If so, I find this list would quickly become cluttered and less useful.

As an aside, this list would be exponentially more helpful if it was annotated.

That said, I found some things that seem to be wrong, and have addressed them below:

Material Plane's
Gods
Fharlanghn, Artha, Gargauth, the Forgotten God of the Yikaria, Iuz, Four Dragon Kings, Wastri, Sardior

Powers
Gaea, Beory

Beory is a deity, not "just" a power. Also, from Dragon Annual #1 (it might have been #2, but I'm pretty sure its #1) there is also the demigod Dukagsh, the scro deity, who lives on the Material Plane.

Etheral Plane

Gods
Ptah, Solinari, Nuitari, Lunitari, Ezra (Ravenloft), Zhakasta (Ravenloft), Sixin the Hunter, Tsolorandril, Tharizdun (demiplane of imprisonment)

Powers
Dark Powers (Ravenloft), Neth

I'm slightly leery of having Ezra and Zakhata in there...we don't know if Ezra is real or not, and we know Zakhata doesn't really exist; its a false god with spells and powers supplied by the Dark Powers.

Plane of Shadow

Gods
Shar

Powers
unknown

What, Gwydion (trapped in a portal between the Plane of Shadow and Ravenloft) doesn't get a mention?

Elemental Plane of Air

Gods
Shu, Chao Kung Ming, Chih-Sung-Tzu, Fei Lien, Feng Po, Wen Chung, Stribog

Powers
Akadi (the Great Funnel), Chan, Husam al-Balil ben Nafhat al-Yugayyim, Yan-C-Bin

Akadi is a deity, not a "mere" power.

Elemental Plane of Earth

Gods
Geb, Volos

Powers
Grumbar, Kabril Ail al-Sara al-Zalazil, Ogremoch, Sunnis

Grumbar is a deity, not a "mere" power.

Elemental Plane of Fire

Gods
Svarog, Svarozhich, Kaelthiere

Powers
Imix, Kossuth, Marrake al-Sidan al-Hariq ben Lazan, Zaaman Rul, Amaimon

Kossuth is a deity, not a "mere" power.

Elemental Plane of Water

Gods
Tefnut, Eadro, Persana, Blibdoolpoolp, Ahto, Osprem, Xerbo, Svantovit

Powers
Ben-Hadar, Istishia, Kalbari al-Durrat al-Amwaj ibn Jari, Olhydra

Istishia is a deity, not a "mere" power.

Positive Energy Plane

Gods
Brahma, Elishar

Powers
Unknown

What, Ashardalon (from Bastion of Broken Souls) doesn't count?

Ash

Gods
Vecna

Powers
Gazra

Vecna does not now, nor does he ever, live on Ash. This is a popular misconception.

Vecna Lives! introduced Citadel Cavitius, which was Vecna's prison colony on Ash, but it never says that Cavitius was his home. Likewise, the next product dealing with Vecna, Ravenloft's Domains of Dread, says that Vecna lived on "the Outer Planes" before he was dragged into Ravenloft. The Player's Guide to Greyhawk simply listed Vecna's current whereabouts at that time, citing Ravenloft also.

After Vecna broke free from Ravenloft in Die Vecna Die!, that product merely stipulates that he settles in "whatever celestial realm over Oerth". We finally get a more definitive answer in the Living Greyhawk Journal, which states that Vecna has a "secret citadel" on the Material Plane. Thus, Vecna's entry should be over there.

Ooze

Gods
Ghaunadaur

Powers
Baron Bwimb

To be most correct, Bwimb is dead (from Dead Gods), and his daughter, Bwimb II, has tried to assume his position (from The Inner Planes).

Limbo

Gods
Sirrion, Huan-Ti, Agni, Indra, Vayu, Fenmarel Mestarine, Tempus, the Red Knight, Shina-tsu-hiko, Susanoo, Procan, Ralishaz, Rudd, Llerg, Norebo, Astilabor, Kereska

Powers
Chourst, Rennbuu, Ssendam, Ygorl

A fifth slaad lord introduced in a recent issue of Dungeon (101 or so?) was Bazim-Gorag, a two-headed slaad lord of fire. He was trapped on the Material Plane for a while though, so you may want to list him there instead.

Tarterian Depths of Carcri

Gods
Nerull, Kiputytto, Surma, Raiden, Talona, Grolantor, Scorpion, Falazure, Karontor, Parrafaire, Vhaeraun, Malar, Stribog, Beltar, Karaan, Yeathan

Powers
Apomps, Coeus, Crius, Hecatoncheire, Kronos, Oceanus, Tethys, Hyperion, Mnemosyne, Themis, Iapetus, Phebe, Thea, Bubonix, Tartarachus

Kiputytto doesn't live in Carceri...she's a little too dead for that. Talona slew her and her (Kiputytto's) corpse is on the Astral with the other dead gods.

Also, Cholerix is also on Carceri, serving Bubonix (for an exhorbitant fee) on how to construct the Tower of Incarnate Pain. Cholerix is mentioned under Bubonix's entry in the article that talks about the other altraloths, in that issue of Dragon (what was that, Annual 3?).

Gray Waste of Hades

Gods
Kelemvor, Jergal, Yutrus, Morgion, Abbathor, Karaulyek, Nergal, Ereshkigal, Incabulos, Hel, Arawn, Ratri, Mask, Shar, Hades, Persephone, Chthonia, Hecate, Cegilune, Panzuriel, Mictlantecuhtli, Mectecacihuatl, Khogaotl, Pyremius, Syrul, Kr'tx, Yeathan
Powers
The Furies, Cerberus, the Oinoloth, Nidhogg, Garm, the Moirae

You might also want to mention Anthraxus, along with Typhus, as they live on this plane.

Bleak Eternity of Gehenna

Gods
Apep, Sargonnas, Gaknulak, Chih-Chiang Fyu-ya, Squerrik, Math Mathonwy, Loviatar, Sung Chiang, Bhaal, Baum, Iyachtu Xvim, Memnor, Maanzecorian, Velsharoon, Shargaas, Mellifleur, Syrul, Scahrossa, The Patient One, The Xammux

Powers
Moloch, the General of Gehenna

Several issues here. Bhaal and Iyachtu Xvim are both dead, as is Maanzecorian. Scahrossa, The Patient One, and the Xammux never had home planes listed, so these are just guesses on your part.

We are, to my knowledge, never told Moloch lives here. After leaving Hell, the only place we next see him is on some Prime world in The Apocalypse Stone, so you may want to list him as being on the Material Plane.

Also, an awnsheighlien (from the Birthright setting) named The Blowfish lives on Gehenna (its referenced in Planes of Conflict).

Nine Hells of Baator

Gods
Tiamut, Kurtulmak, Set, Takhisis, Bargrivyek, No Cha, Sekolah, Druaga, Hecate, Fia-So, the Red Crane, Inanna, Ycse, Ezeboam, Kriesha, Emma-O, Piscaethces the Blood Queen, P'kk, Scahrossar

Powers
Asmodeus the Hidden, Bel the Warlord, Dispater the Archduke, Fierana the Fiery Lady, Geryon the Forgotten One, Malagard the Hag Countess, Minauros the Viscount, Triel the Fallen, Mammon, Levistus, Armaros, Glasya, Iblis, Belial, Iadalbaoth, Urakbarameel, Esdreel, Hakael, Rahbad, Beleth, Dagon, Furcas, Baalzephon, Bist, Bune, Nergal, Vuall, Malgrin, Antaia, Naamah

Where to start...most of those last ones (after Iblis, Bune, Vuall, Malgrin, Antaia, etc.) are from Green Ronin's Legions of Hell which isn't strictly D&D. Likewise, you have listed Minauros and Mammom...the two are one and the same.

[]Concordant Domain of the Outlands

Gods
Boccob, Obad-Hai, Thoth, Gilean (the Hidden Vale), Shinare (Marketplace Eternal), Bes, Yen-Wang-Yeh, Io-Chronepsis, Untamo, Ilsensine, Shekinester, Semuanya, Vergadain, Dugmaren Brightmantle, Dumathoin, Annam, Gilean, Alathrien Druanna, Sheela Peryroyl, the Daghda, Oghma, Manannan, Nehalennia, Nemhain, the Morrigan, Silvanus, Nuada, Goibhniu, Dunastis, Andraste, Angus mac Og, Epona, Danu, Perun, Tvashtri, Gond, Svantovit, Kragalitec, Zilchus, Zagyg, Sera, Waukeen, Ramman, Apshai, Erik, Istus, Ulaa, Bleredd, Xan Yae, Geshtai, Gzemnid, Xiuhtechuhtli, Tirag Thunderhooves

Powers
The Norns, The Lady of Pain?[/b]

Another altraloth lives there also...I can't recall the name, but it began with an X.

Region of Dreams

Gods
Hypnatia, Phobetor, Phantasia

Powers
The Ghost Dancer, Hypnos, Morpheus, Mullonga, the Nightmare Man, the Rainbow Serpent

All of these Powers belong under the Ethereal Plane listing, since all of them are trapped firmly in Ravenloft. They can affect the Region of Dreams, but cannot truly enter it.

Far Realm

Gods
Kthanid, Mordiggian, Ithaqua, Cthulhu, Cthuga, Orryx, Vorvadoss, Arwassa, Baoht Z'uqqa-Mogg, Bugg-Shash, Byatis, Cthylla, Cynothoglys, Gloon, Dho-spawn, Gol-goroth, Green God, Hydra, Iod, Juk-Shabb, Lloigor, M'nagahah, Nug, Yeb, Ossadagowah, Othuum, Q'yth-az, God of the Red Flux, Rlim Shaikorth, Saaitii, Sebek, Summanus, Vibur, Vulthoom, Yegg-ha, Ythogtha, Zu-che-quon, Ancient Ones, Ghroth, Larvae of the Outer Gods, Star Mother, Tru'nembra, Yidhra

Powers
Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, Shub-Niggurath, Hastur, Yog-Sothoth

Apart from their entry in the original Deities & Demigods, which did not list their home planes if I recall rightly (it certainly didnt say the Far Realm) the Cthulhu Mythos isn't D&D, so you may not want to list it here.

Nov 26, 2003 9:24:35 Thanks Alzrius I did not make most of the list rip from RoE did I have only added on (he posted it in my thread).

Are you willing to help me from the ground up if so we can start Alzrius. Plus I would help if I defind powers better for this.

My first step in a little while is to take out the gods that dont realy look like they should go (which you pointed outed out). Ill try and get part two up some time today.

Also any help on part two when I get it posted would be nice since some of the gods I have no clew as what they do or where they god (mostly ones from grayhawk).

Other then the first thing we need to place all the grayhawk gods then the FRs ones. Then we move on from there (and use the better vershons for part to for domains and such).

I'd love to help! The first thing to do is dig out my copy of On Hallowed Ground from the attic. I should be able to do that over the weekend. That aside, a sources catalogue would help also, as would annotations, if possible.

To be honest, I recommend getting rid of the Powers part. For one thing "powers" has been used as a synonym for "gods" before, so it creates confusion. Likewise, listing all the gods is daunting enough...listing near-divine beings also is even tougher.

Other then the first thing we need to place all the grayhawk gods then the FRs ones. Then we move on from there (and use the better vershons for part to for domains and such).

Shouldn't be hard if we use the 2E sourcebooks, since they were more holistic in general.

Jan 12, 2004 17:03:01 I was reading the list when I suddenly remembered, that I wanted to post a question about two of these characters, namely Vucarik of Chains and Despair of the Endless.
Please rite everything you know about them, and I will be very grateful.

Jan 13, 2004 0:28:55 Vucarik of Chains is detailed in the Hellbound box set.

Also the Altraloth on the Outlands mentioned earlier, his name is Xenghara.

I'd also list Apomps as a genuine deity, though I'm not sure what he's actually classified as in OHG. He may just be a Quasi power, however he does grant spells to the Gehreleths and he's usually referred to as a god, so make your own call

Jan 13, 2004 3:57:26 Thanks alot for the info about Vucarik, now I can proceed to unleashing his minions on my poor players in my current campaign.
P.S You don't happen to know anything about his stats...hmm??:D
#23
Shemeska_the_Marauder
Jan 13, 2004 12:41:38 I don't believe that there were any stats given for him, just that he's an Abyssal lord that doesn't rule over one specific layer but rather wanders aimlessly about them all. He's wrapped head to toe in rusted chains, and some have linked him to the Kytons of Baator.

Regardless of whether he's related to them by way of a fall from law to chaos, he's less randomly destructive than most of his Abyssal relatives. He'll occasionally pause before any non Tanar'ri who wander across his path over the course of wanderings, and, rather than butcher them on the spot he'll hire them to perform tasks for him, paying them even. Of course you'd be a fool to assume he'd do the same to every sod who finds him, he is after all an Abyssal lord, seemingly less chaotic or not.

That's the gist of the info in Hellbound.

A mass greyness that any immortal comes upon if trying to phase into higher than the 5 dimensions. This Plane is enless and Immortals can be lost for ages or forever if they wander to far. If a immortal whether "god" or not is sucked into the "vortex" they are gone forever.

Only creatures known as "blackballs" seem to be able to enter and leave the 6th dimentional vortex unharmed

BEYOND THE 6th DIMENSIONAL VORTEX

Immortals (the gods) did not create the Planes of existence, they came from within the normal processes of Existance itself and began to organixe and rule the Planes they squated on, explorered, and conquered.

The 6th Dimensonal Vortex as a strong "created feel" to it and the Immortals speculate with their great intellect and Wisdom (and therefore correctly) that the Vortex was created by more powerful beings that the "gods" that they refer to as the "OLD ONES" though they do not know why.

They are of course right and Overlord Ao is in fact one of the "Old Ones" that cultivated the Spheres and put "gods" in charge of their perpestive projects and created the 6th Dimensinal vortex to limit where the Immortals can go and the "Old Ones" Occupy the 7th and Higher Dimensions. Therefore there are many "Spheres" with their own "gods" and pantheons runned by their own overgod.

THE DIMENSIONAL CEILING

Barriar that even the "Old Ones" can't pass and they know not whats beyond it

Within the Dimesional Cieling are the "Ancient Ones" that watch the "Old Ones" like the "Old Ones" watch the "gods" and the "gods" watch over mortals :D (They didn' create existence either as they to are "being watched"

Jan 17, 2004 21:24:40 There's a 1st edition version of Deities and Demigods that has information not in Hallowed Ground. What are you defining as "powers" precisely? Do you mean strictly gods or are you also saying things like Primus are powers?

I have heard of it (Legends & Lores) yes its not like I can get a free PDF of it. Its hard to get.

I have a copy of L&L (2nd Edition) in my loft, I heard that the book had to be axed because of a legal dispute. It had information about Lankmar that TSR had aparantly used without permission of the owner. From what I heard, someone thought that copyright had run out and Lankmar was now open source, but all the names of Lankmar characters, gods, monsters and other things had been trademarked.

If that rumor is true then it would be illegal for WotC to allow anyone to distribute a PDF of the book. Perhaps one of the companies that sells PDFs of 2e and 1e stuff can produce a cut down version with the Lankmar chapter cut out of it.

To my non-lawyer brain that should sort out the problem, however the PDF printers might be too scared to touch it with a barge pole!

TSR had a license to use Fritz Lieber's Nehwon setting, so 2e Legends & Lore was 100% street legal. They don't have that license anymore, so it probably isn't available in .pdf format.

What you're probably thinking of is way back in 1980 there was a 1e book called Deities & Demigods which included gods, characters, and monsters from the Cthulhu mythos and Michael Moorcock's Elric series. Chaosium had the license to use these gods in RPGs. TSR got their permission to use them in Deities & Demigods' first printing, but had to take them out of subsequent printings. The copy of 1e Deities & Demigods that I have just doesn't have those chapters. It still has the Nehwon chapter, since TSR had the license for that.

Jul 08, 2004 0:07:08 In his most recent incarnation in the MotP web enhancement, Primus is listed as a lesser deity, so he should be in the god listing.

Thanks for the history lesson. I stand corrected.

It is a shame that the Newhon stuff is in there though because if it wasn't everyone could get the PDF to see information about the other pantheons that are not in the 3e Deities & Demigods. :-(

In the above list, "Power" refers to powerful planar entities that don't rely on mortal worship to survive or prosper, even if they have divine ranks. At least, that's what I decided it meant, and most of it was compiled by me. Law came up with the format, but he didn't explain what the difference between a Power and god is, so I divided them the way I wanted them.

So Primus would be a Power by that definition, as would the elemental rulers, the primal titans and their parents, and so on. That's why the list seems odd. One of the reasons, anyway. The other reason is the plentiful number of non-canonical deities.

The next place Vecna was mentioned was actually the original Planescape boxed set. Since both the Planescape boxed set and Vecna Lives! were written by David Cook, and because the Planescape box assures us that Vecna does indeed dwell in Cavitius (and that he drove out the Doomguard who originally lived there), we can assume that this was the original intention.

"Here the Doomguard once had Citadel Cavitius, a massive skull fortress that sat on the edge of the Negative Energy Plane. Eons ago it was taken from them by the lich Vecna, and now it's that demigod's prison and stronghold." - DM's Guide to the Planes, p.37.

From the POWERS BY PLANE poster map:

"ASH
Vecna"

Cavitius is Vecna's home. Domains of Dread is incorrect in this instance, and guilty of shoddy research. We really can't expect people trapped on the demiplane of Dread to know much about the planes, anyway, so all is forgiven.

Jul 12, 2004 2:07:30 Don't have it with me but I believe the Nighmare Lands boxed set does indeed place the Nightmare Court in the Plane of Dreams rather than in the Ethereal. It *might* be possible to escape RL through the realm of the court but as its almost impossible to get to and even harder to leave thats an adventure in its own right.

This might be irrelevant as I'm not sure that the Nightmare Man (much less the rest of the retinue) count as a power though. If anyone is interested in checking I'd love to know if the creators were the same as the people who worked on the planescape Doorways (to the Unknown?) module. Both deal with higher and lower "realities".

At the time, and perhaps still, the border between the near and deep ethereal surrounding prime worlds and populated demiplanes contained a region known as a wall of color. It was upon this border that dreams manifested within the ethereal near/deep border. The 3e optional 'realm of dreams' contains material that is word for word pulled from the 2e Planescape 'Guide to the Ethereal' description of dreamscapes upon the wall of color at that border.

As such, I believe the 'plane of dreams' associated with the Nightmare Court was simply that border region in the ethereal surrounding the demiplane of dread itself near that particular domain.

Jul 14, 2004 22:21:05 Uh, Law, I think you forgot to put the Chultan deity Ubtao on your list. He has realms in both the Beastlands and the Outlands.
