New Here
Hello all.
I was recommended to join this forum by someone i know from another website.
I was originally interested in Mo Pai, but i know there is little to no possibility of one to openly talk about and teach it. So Neidan was offered. Is there anything pertaining to Neidan or any other philosophical system that would be similar?

Re: New Here
Western Alchemy would be in some ways similar to Chinese Internal Alchemy, and Tantra and Vajrayana or Esoteric Buddhism is also similar. There is a tendency towards elitist lineages and traditions regarding many of these things, particularly in Asian and East Asian schools, but much of the source material is freely available though not always translated, which may require information gathered from experts who know the language and have studied the matters. As for over-emphasis of familial lineages, these act as a fallacy or fallacious gimmick and do not necessarily validate the modern interpretations taken on as being the same or comparable to the ancient sources or interpretations.
There are papers written comparing Plato and the work of Platonists and Neo-Platonists with the Chinese and developments which appeared in some ways similar within China and nations influenced by India and China.
There is a heavy medical focus in most modern literature regarding these things which often moves away from more philosophical or spiritual interests. This is also due to a strong and somewhat ancient emphasis on longevity and health being the manifest result of spiritual felicity and religious health. If one is well, then all is well, and so the focus became much more on wellness than on spiritual cosmologies or metaphysics except in relation to how it might be made manifest in a strong and healthy person. Certain schools from India which were the predecessors to Buddhism also focused at times heavily on physical manifestations of powers which made their way to China.

Re: New Here
Thank you for the information, what would you recommend as a starting point?
Re: New Here
I suppose it's like any form of applied practical philosophy, alchemy is all about knowing 'the elements' and substance in order to unite with the processes of formation to aid transformation. Pretty much all of the works of Spinoza, Michel Foucault and other thinkers like them have similar approaches to philosophy as practice. Although I would argue that all philosophy can be viewed this way.
Re: New Here
I understand, thank you for the information. So the Golden Elixir can be found in multiple philosophical branches?
Re: New Here
In my opinion, the golden elixir, the philosophers stone, is kind of like the 'layout' of what philosophy is about, its 'goal' so to speak, it is the most general way to describe a journey through yourself and the world, loving wisdom and the pursuit of it. Check out Michel Foucault's 'care of the self'.

Moved:
viewtopic.php?p=2126#p2126
Lolth will be collecting as much as possible from any threads that aren't started by me.
If I make it in time, I'll also replace all these "Moved" posts with things I'm not as posessive about, but all my big posts that I want to keep on the site will be moved to my threads if they were made after 2017, and all provocative comments will be looked at by me for censoring them or taking them down and putting them elsewhere possibly. I dislike the paranoia I feel having them up, but I wish the world wasn't that way as I don't think it should be wrong to feel annoyed by certain things and express that, but very hostile groups of people may be targeting even harmless venting to take issue with it or bring about severe repercussions for making certain statements in any public format, which is a travesty really that governments that are supposed to represent all the people are allowing such a thing to occur.
