Why are there so many fascists?

Post by atreestump »

I have been debating with a few people about capitalism and they all seem to have very fascist views.

The basis of their arguments are:

[list]
[*]Socialism (welfare, communal land etc) is theft and slavery of the minority of capitalists
[*]Homeless people are lazy
[*]Remittance is great
[*]Augusto Pinochet has bought growth to Chile, he killed everyone who opposed him and stole all publicly held property to sell it, but you know, socialism is theft right?
[*]Vedanta are criminals for polluting rivers in Zambia - but that's got nothing to do with capitalism of course...
[*]If you can't afford to live here, why should landlords charge less? It's not like you made money for them or anything...
[*]Chinese factory workers are free, that's why when they try to kill themselves, we bring them back to life and send them back to work for $1.76 per hour

Because fascism is pretty good at what it does. It's obviously preferable. In wartime it can guarantee expansion and gaining / stealing resources. The only way land rights have such absolute meaning is through government.

What about companies with a public image to maintain? What about companies which defend people against domination, trans people? There are also a few companies that defend privacy although I do find things increasingly panoptic with many of them.

It all comes down to trust. I don't see how private companies can be properly regulated if they play roles usually assigned to the state.

I was coming at these arguments with an anti-humanist anarchist view - there is nothing important about human beings and we should be doing better than just dividing up everything as property with a harsh work ethic with it too.

So be it, perhaps companies don't need regulation. I thought anarchism is against authority. Decentralized decision making is a good thing perhaps. It's not about work ethic, it's about strategy. If it was about work ethic the lower classes and mexican immigrants would be better off than they are.

I mean those companies could end up policing if they assume control - it's a statement against corporate rule.

The work ethic part was central to the fascists arguments about homeless people and other things.

Corporate bodies are just bodies of people, neither good nor bad. I just find they are too entitled to special privileges. Others like my dad asserts a keynesian model of cooperation between responsible corporations and a socialized state.

I think Keynes is the best you can do at the moment. Anarchy is not possible, people aren't ready for it. This is not to say that Anarchy is pointless to mention, but there is an extreme ideology on the move and they need a simpler form of economics to understand before they evoke monarchy thinking it's anarchy!
