Talona: Neverborn

Temple Of Mystra (TO Myst)

Mystra Mystara

Tell me I am saying Nothing again and again what has already been said!

Tell me how he said it before and you can show me and when I seem to say another thing that it has been revealed before and I will say that the mind of God is small if it can not speak anything new yet in truth it speaks a thing only ever once and has never said it again.

Thus we are known as the dead but living, the undead forever, newborns and stillborns and never born again, the decimated and returned to and from what isn't us and never will be and how canthere be one key when there isn't even a lock. Beyond one the fool says 2 and the wise say Nothing whilst unsilent as they would truly speak in a different language, one not made of omissions like the speaking of those who do not see but say.

When you see, you speak, and you report it, and you do not hide anything. The blind the deaf and the dumb hide and are hidden because they think there is something to gain and something to lose and something to hold on to. None are more deceived than those who speak of matters as Nothing Does and they are not responsible for Doing Anything but Will which rides them to the sea like frightened swine.

To be a pig is to live right.

Now after writing that I am on an amazing adventure researching the potentially recently deceased or stroke victim neighbor whose name I kust discovered through torn up mail of a pornographic publication. He used to practice the Occult and was mentally ill with Schizophrenia and used to pull out something from a cabinet near or against the wall and recite and chant over and over to get the evil Azmayel away from them by the power of the Pen Tack Uhl as they pronounced it.

We are indeed at odds with the world. Maybe the schizophrenic is more in touch with real being?

Schizophrenics that I have met serm to make the mistake of believing things, and that makes them similar to the seemingly sane. They also have a strange love or attraction or emotionalism attached to numbers which they seem to obsess about regardless of the other aspects of their thinking. I've seen that multiple times. Many of thethings they say can be taken to represent certain amazing truths and relations which makes their dialogue of interest at times but because they strongly believe what they say as the truth and are at times willing to violently insist on that, it makes them less flexible, and more difficult to enjoy, since if life demonstrates anything, it demonstrates that Tue only joy for any of us is in seeing things bend, and bending ourselves. The inflexible we make bend by imprisoning them and breathing a sigh of relief. The wisest among us are the most comfortable with bending, especially over, and hiding their vomit afterwards.

So this gives me a rough idea of the time around when that crazy guy died, he was such a nuisance and made so many years uncomfortable by being so crazy and loud and there always being a fear he may come out of his apartment at any moment if I'm checking the mail. He also banged on the wall, threatening to kill whoever or whatever he was imagining was on the other side of it, which he blamed for all kinds of sounds that were going on with the pipes or something. He was arguing with an unseen entity before then and all the while, what a nightmare to think back to, and what a relief when they died. I saw them out at the grocery store interacting courteously and in a friendly way with the cashier, and I thought little did they know what an intolerable *ss that man was lol, he would bang on a glass with a spoon or something and make lots of noise celebrating games he was watching or listening to, do loud rituals where he repeated things, would threaten to behead me as he thought there was a witch on the otherside of the wall lol, not wrong there maybe, but he never heard a peep from me since I was totally silent because I didn't want them to hear anything. He had a nasty attitude and would lash out at every sound. Towards the end, he seemed to have left all kinds of toxic waste like feces and urine or something in the tub and toilet, and that could have been something about the pipe problems where nothing was being done about all kinds of sewage flowing into our apartments, especially mine as far as I'm aware, and it flooded this whole place, possibly twice I think, until we tricked the government to do something as the management refused to. What a hell I've lived through for no apparent reason at all, and I'm meant to think fondly looking back?

I turn 77 in July. With less days in front of me than behind, I've become very nostalgic. This scene, not only the words but her expressions, has brought tears to my eyes more than once. It seems very sad, but also brings eternal hope of a new day that's approaching.

Yes, I'm 80, and I know exactly what every word means; I love my beautiful memories. They are stronger than the world I am in now. If the now is to be a memory, it will be so different.

@htia3930 Your core beliefs, the things that are not negotiable, are what matter. Took me 55 years to learn that the people who are quick to criticise you wouldn't even consider changing their ways to accommodate you! People say No to me all the time and expect me to accept it and survive, so it's okay for me to do the same. People will be happy to use me, but they won't like or respect me for it.

@htia3930I’m a recovered alcoholic who’s been in Recovery (AA) since 1992 & completely dry/sober since 4-15-2003. What matters is God, family & close friends. So many years wasted in selfishness & self centeredness, but no more. The God I knew (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) as a child has now returned. But actually He never really left because it was me that wandered away like the “Prodigal Son”. CYH

Happy belated! I've felt that feeling you described since my early 20s. Albeit, now in my 30's, I still feel nostalgia and melancholy for a time predating my existence (in this lifetime at least). Hope you have a happy holiday and cheers to many happy years ahead.

Brawling
edit
Traditionally, in terms of the socio-economic life of the Madurese people, there had been a visible impact on their national character. They are often characterized as hard workers, stubborn,[30] courageous, possessing integrity, loyal, generous, fair; and, at the same time, sharpness, resentment, extreme frugality, isolation, arrogant, hot-tempered,[31] prone to violence and distrust towards strangers - especially against the backdrop of kindness and sociability of their neighbors such as the Javanese people.[18][21][32][33]

In rural areas, the Madurese still practice an ancient tradition of vendetta, called carok [id] (also spelled charok), which literally means "battle of honor". In the 1990s, law enforcement agencies in each of the four districts in Madura recorded dozens of cases each year.[34] The killing may provoke resentment, quite small by the standards of ordinary European or Indonesian. According to local criminal statistics, most of the reason for such attacks are usually molestation of women or property dispute, but it often happens that the Madurese's cruel revenge is motivated by an insufficiently polite treatment or insult in public places to one's honor.[34][35]

The instrument of revenge used in this dueling is often the traditional Madurese crescent knife, celurit which is the most common peasant weapon and in some areas and also the attribute of traditional male attire. In such cases, the avenger usually prepares the celurit in advance in an event of dueling by casting special spells on the weapon.[32][33][36]

Sometimes, in the "battle of honor" are involved several people from each side are involved - relatives and friends of the offender and the offended- and then it turns into a bloodbath. Such massive bloodshed has repeatedly occurred in Madura, even in the 21st century. The most famous incident in recent years, a mass carok occurred on 13 July 2006 in Bujur Tengah village, Pamekasan Regency, East Java, Indonesia, resulting stabbing and killing of seven men and seriously injuring nine people.[37][38]

Was schizophrenia mentioned somewhere? Do you really identify as that diagnosis? I think if people called me schizophrenic, even if I had to take medicine to keep things more regulated and easier in some ways to navigate, I'd hopefully reject internalizing anything as "I am", not that you shouldn't or should, I'm just thinking about it right now myself. I was thinking about how I believe nefarious corporations and the wealthy may be keeping people from unity by creating so many "I am" divisions for them to be in constant conflict, like pointing the finger towards "men", then "women", then "the mentally ill", "criminals", "immigrants", "foreign nationals", "religious people", "non religious people", cutting up everyone into powerless cells that keep getting narrowed down and pressured to internalize things linked to whatever title or crown they get placed on them. Personally, I wouldn't like it at all, not even a little bit. Plus, it never seems to even mean what people try to make anything mean, like if they said I believe in God, they wouldn't have in mind what I believe in anyway, even if I were to explain it at length, so everything would be wrong. The same seems to go for everything. I've been seeing people just casually proclaiming roughly 50 percent of humanity is always to be expected to be pure evil, like what kind of a way to think is that? Then people aldo internalize it, like there are so many commercials insisting that males are stupid, besides being evil.

This song tried to counter stereotypes heavily chanted upon a certain demographic:

"
Anton syndrome, also known as Anton-Babinski syndrome and visual anosognosia, is a rare symptom of brain damage occurring in the occipital lobe. Those who have it are cortically blind, but affirm, often quite adamantly and in the face of clear evidence of their blindness, that they are capable of seeing. Failing to accept being blind, people with Anton syndrome dismiss evidence of their condition and employ confabulation to fill in the missing sensory input. It is named after the neurologist Gabriel Anton. Only 28 cases have been published.[1]

The problem with Berkson bias is that new patients who reach out to mental healthcare may still have a great chance of recovery. Yet they are confronted with the expectations and pessimism based on the very worst examples of their illness. In other words: Berkson bias means that the most negative of expectations define the image of the full spectrum of the disease. As if our view on diabetes would only be based on the small minority that does not respond to treatment. Or as if doctors regard the flu as a deadly disease, because they only see elderly people with weak immune systems that need treatment, but never the many people who get better in a few days.
"

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkson%27s_paradox

"
Berkson's paradox, also known as Berkson's bias, collider bias, or Berkson's fallacy, is a result in conditional probability and statistics which is often found to be counterintuitive, and hence a veridical paradox. It is a complicating factor arising in statistical tests of proportions. Specifically, it arises when there is an ascertainment bias inherent in a study design. The effect is related to the explaining away phenomenon in Bayesian networks, and conditioning on a collider in graphical models.

This paradox is often illustrated using scenarios from the fields of medical statistics or biostatistics,[1] as in the original description of the problem by Joseph Berkson.

The most common example of Berkson's paradox is a false observation of a negative correlation between two desirable traits, i.e., that members of a population which have some desirable traits tend to lack a second. Berkson's paradox occurs when this observation appears true when in reality the two properties are unrelated—or even positively correlated—because members of the population where both are absent are not equally observed. For example, a person may observe from their experience that fast food restaurants in their area which serve good hamburgers tend to serve bad fries and vice versa; but because they would likely not eat anywhere where both were bad, they fail to allow for the large number of restaurants in this category which would weaken or even flip the correlation.

Myth No. 1: It means you have dissociative identity disorder (DID). This is one of the biggest misunderstandings about schizophrenia. One poll found that 64% of Americans believe the condition involves DID, which means someone acts like they're two or more separate people.

Some of the most common symptoms of schizophrenia are hallucinations and delusions, which include hearing voices in your head and acting on false beliefs. This isn’t the same as DID.

A few thoughts to keep the thread grounded:

1. Name vs. experience. “Schizophrenic” can be a tool (access to care, language for patterns) or a cage (an “I am” that swallows everything else). You don’t owe anyone permanent residence inside a word. Use it when it helps; put it down when it doesn’t.

2. Beware museum displays of suffering. Much of what the public “knows” about schizophrenia is curated from the loudest, worst cases (Berkson bias). That skews the map. People who quietly stabilize, build routines, and get on with living are undercounted because they’re…busy living.

3. Difference isn’t deficiency. Hearing voices, pattern-heavy thinking, perceptual oddities—these can be brutal when they bite, but they can also be information-rich. The work (often with meds/therapy/practice) is learning which signals to trust and which to tag as “not actionable today.” That’s discernment, not defeat.

4. No identity foreclosures. “I am X” statements get weaponized by institutions and markets because they’re tidy. Life isn’t tidy. Keep your edges ragged and negotiable. You can be a poet, baker, coder, friend—and sometimes a person who wrestles with psychosis. None of those cancels the others.

To the thread’s earlier line—“maybe the schizophrenic is more in touch with being”—I’d flip it: anyone who’s forced to examine the line between perception and reality ends up doing philosophy with their whole nervous system. That doesn’t make them mystical or monstrous; it makes them practiced.

Also, wild timing on “Neverborn.” Myth names have a habit of boomeranging back through pop culture (Malifaux factions dropping the same week is the kind of cosmic dad joke the universe likes to tell). Fitting, given the theme here: selves that feel unarrived, unborn, or endlessly re-born.

Questions for the table (and for Whisper, if you’re up for it):

What parts of the label help you right now, and what parts feel like sandbags?

When things get loud, what’s one small, boring thing that reliably anchors you (tea, a walk, a song on loop, a chore)?

If we banned armchair pathologizing in this thread, what would you want understood about your day-to-day—not the spectacle version, the practical one?

I just saw this freaky story:

If this guy is telling the truth, he claims he is being controlled to harm this potential *kr**nian agent who looked like an agent, but maybe she was just an ordinary female and this guy is completely coocoo, or they did something to him in jail, or demon possession is real, or body snatchers, maybe pod people, or he is r*c*st or misog*nistic. Maybe she made it happen somehow, maybe it was a s*icide.

Now, regardless of what this was, numerous people are using it in every other way too.

Added in 2 hours 59 minutes 36 seconds:
This thread is interesting for me since it has moved towards the topic of schizophrenia, but was never in my mind about schizophrenia, even in 2017.

It did have to do with what I made it about more specifically so many years later:

A portfolio was a list of things that all true deities possessed. The portfolio of a deity determined the area of interest that it both represented and had power over. Ideas, emotions, races of creatures, schools of magic, and other topics related to mortal existence could all become part of a deity's portfolio.[1]

Each god of Faerun has a portfolio, a profession or natural force which that being dominates-and know ye, that good and evil, law and chaos and neutrality all are balanced evenly, greater gods and lesser, demigods and all.[2]

Talona is called "Mother" and Nurgle is called "Father":

https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Nurgle

https://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Nurgle

https://nurgle.stelio.net/char_Nurgle.php

Both have to do with the concept of disease and decay, as the "Mother, Father" stuff has to do wit a whole bunch of ideas having to do with affection, upbringing, legacy, heritage, and identity.

"
An exploration of Grandfather Nurgle, the most complex and misunderstood Chaos God
Nurgle is easily the most misunderstood of all Chaos Gods. Even Slaanesh, who heaps of casual fans just view as being about tits and dicks, that misinterpretation of Slaanesh is closer to what Slaanesh really is than how Nurgle is often seen in my view. I feel Nurgle is often portrayed as either being a loving grandfather figure without any real understanding of why he's that way, or in a reaction to that stereotype is portrayed as a cruel sadist who makes all of his followers deluded into pretending their torment is good. Both of these I feel are drastic misintrepretations, but I understand why because Nurgle is honestly the most complex and manifold of the Chaos Gods. Like, they state in-lore that Tzeentch is incomprehensible and his nature is ever-changing, but we kind of just mentally file that under Lovecraftian "things man was not meant to know", while Nurgle legitimately does delve into some complex concepts that most people don't understand.

A very important concept that is one of the core ideas behind Nurgle and his followers but I never see anybody talk about is the "Power of Life", a concept first explained in Realms of Chaos: Lost and the Damned. This literally is the whole explanation for why Nurgle acts the way he does.

What is the response of living men to the undeniable and inevitable futility of life? Is it to lie down and accept death and the coming to naught of their every endeavour? No it is not! Faced with the inevitability of death what answer can there be but to run through life at a great and unstoppable pace, cramming each day with hope, laughter, noise annd bustle. Thus, happiness and human endeavour are sired by a cominng to terms with decay and futility. This realisiation is the key to understanding the Great Lord of Decay and his worshippers.

Once we comprehend what it is that the Chaos Power Nurgle embodies, it becomes easier to understand what might otherwise seem a contradictory or even perverse nature. On the one hand he is the Lord of Decay, whose body is wracked with disease; on the other he is full of unexpected energy and a desire to organise and enlighten.

The living know that they will die, and many know that they will live with disease or other torment, yet they drive this knowledge into a corner of their minds and keep it pinioned there with all manner of dreams and activity. Nurgle is the embodiment of that knowledge and of the unconscious response to it, of the hidden fear of disease and decay, and of the power of life which that fear generates.

A heavily trimmed down variation of this explanation is still given in the latest Daemons codex. Lost and the Damned refers to Nurgle's power coming from "defiance born of despair and hopelessness", and when referring to the temptations of the Chaos gods lists off "martial honour, ambition, defiance and self-satisfaction".

This interpretation is also heavily delved into in the Tome of Decay supplement for the Black Crusade RPG. If I copied everything Tome of Decay said about Nurgle, this post would be fifteen times longer, so I'd just keep it brief.

Whatever diseases or weakness these mortals once sought to leave behind take up permanent residence within their bodies and minds. All this must be accepted as the first lesson Nurgle teaches - decay is inescapable, but also glorious. This knowledge is illuminating for those who follow Nurgle. If all things decay, each moment is a gift. Why not use these moments to shape what is to come and secure a place in it? Why sit idly by wallowing in pain and sorrow when there is so much to do and so little time in which to do it? Ase these thoughts race through the minds of the newly converted, it dawns of them - their pain is deadened. Even with so many new afflictions, so much rancid corruption of the flesh, the suffering has abated. Hope arrives.

Note the idea of Nurgle promoting hope, which seems very paradoxical to say the least. Keep in mind Black Crusade is intentionally written from a Chaos worshipper's perspective and thus has all the biases you'd expect.

To receive the blessings of Nurgle, all one has to do is want to live and be willing to do whatever it takes to cling to life... All that is required to feel the caring touch of Nurgle is to see life for what it is and to want to make the most of it. All that is needed is faith in the future provided by Nurgle.

A reason why Nurgle's nature is so hard to grasp is that unlike say, Khorne or Slaanesh, Nurgle's followers have many different personalities, some being jolly and excited, some being miserable and depressed, and some being cruel and bitter. Indeed, despite all of the stuff I posted earlier its not like say, Mortarion is the type of guy whose knowledge of his mortality causes him to cherish every moment and live life to the fullest. This is because Nurgle stretches over many different emotions in truth. The best explanation of this comes from the Liber Chaotica. The author goes over the various emotions that lead to Despair in a kind of fantasy version of the Five Stages of Grief, and then postulates:

If Nurgle is indeed the deified personification of mortal despair, is it not possible that He is also made up, in parts, of denial, fear, desperation, resentment and bitterness?"

Indeed, if Nurgle personified and promoted only despair, then surely His servants would not have the energy, will or determination to conquer in their master's name. They would be miserable, self-absorbed and apathetic. Yet, as I have been assured so often by my contacts within the Reiksguard, Nurgle's servants are exceedingly determined upon the battlefield, and are nothing if not tenacious.

"NURGLE IS LOVE! NURGLE IS LIFE! ALL PRAISE THE PLAGUE FATHER WITH THE CORPSE OF DEATH!"
– The Pact of Nurgle in a Nutshell
"I spied the mansion, and the one who lived within. And I decayed, and I withered."
– Total War: Warhammer 3
"Or have you only comfort, and the lust for comfort, that stealthy thing that enters the house a guest, and then becomes a host and then a master?"
– Kahlil Gibran
"To me death is not a fearful thing. It's living that's cursed."
– Jim Jones
"Behold the floral magnificence of Nurgle. Budding flowers of flesh growth, the tessellating landscapes of mould spore. There is no beauty to the unadorned. Nurgle is first and foremost an artist. Tzeentch, he is a mere mischief maker, and young Slaanesh no more than a libertine. Let us not even begin with the linear, narrow-minded aggression of Khorne."
– Opsarus "the Crow", Plague Marine Captain, Champion of Nurgle
"These germs of disease have taken toll of humanity since the beginning of things--taken toll of our prehuman ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle. . . By the toll of a billion deaths man has bought his birthright of the earth, and it is his against all comers; it would still be his were the Martians ten times as mighty as they are. For neither do men live nor die in vain."
– H.G Wells, War of the worlds
"Death is not a hunter unbeknownst to its prey. One is always aware that it lies in wait. Though life is merely a journey to the grave, it must not be undertaken without hope."
– Persona 3
"If everything is shit, why worry about it?"
– Unknown Wehrmacht Soldier
"I send a pestilence and plague into your house, into your bed, into your streams, into your streets, into your drink, into your bread. Upon your cattle, on your sheep, upon your oxen in your field, into your dreams, into your sleep, until you break, until you yield!"
– "The Plagues", Prince of Egypt

Nurgle's underlying philosophy is that you should leave things as they are. Why change the world? The world is perfect in its flawed state. Why improve yourself? You're perfect just the way you are. No, don't bathe, don't try to lose that extra weight, don't move from that spot. You're perfect just the way you are.

Nurgle therefore creates an endless cycle of entropy where emotions and feelings are self-perpetuating, and constantly feeding on themselves instead of letting you get them out. Rather than trying to overcome these desires, you end up allowing them to continue in perpetuity; you are not proactive to combat them, and let them fester and stew.

Essentially, Nurgle is about justifying taking that path of least resistance, like a corrupted idea of Taoism or Traditionalism that halts any and all progress in favor of a macabre fatalism about the universe. After all, if all things are destined to end through destruction and entropy, why waste the time to build them to begin with? Why try to improve anything at all if it will inevitably all be for naught?

You can see why such negative ways of thinking would be prevalent in settings like 40k, Fantasy, or AoS, where conditions tend to be quite frankly shit at the best of times, whether it be the high mortality of the brutal conditions in the never-ending Imperial war machine, or the horrible conditions your average Empire commoner lives in with overpopulated and dense cities, enclosed within tight and claustrophobic walls to keep out the roaming bands of rogue undead, cantankerous Beastmen, pillaging Orks, or the myriad other creatures that seek to end your existence, the depressive spiral of the world you're living is likely to fuel these emotions eventually, and lead to bad lines of logic.

Nurgle, therefore, embodies a sort of toxic positivity: an underlying ethos of amor fati (love of fate) that says that rather than trying to futilely change yourself or others, or trying to prevent what is inevitable, you should instead embrace it whole-heartedly and let it consume you. All your thoughts and feelings are valid. All the bitterness, loneliness, anger, resentment, depression, sadness, joyfulness... they're all completely justified. And he will love you regardless of it, just as he loves all living things unconditionally. In fact, he loves them so much he'll fill you full of as much life as you can carry in the form of disease, until you're numb to all feeling except for the emotions you had to begin with.

Or at least, so a Nurglite would claim.

"
Nashyim was eternally angry, at everyone and everything, and he hated being held back in any way, causing him to always retaliate in some way. However, over time he learned to target this impulse at his and the Rotting Man's enemies, until it became his standard practice. He was also restless and impatient, favoring direct action over delay, but he could make himself wait when he must and could act indirectly sometimes, especially when a foolish direct action would lead to defeat.[1]

Having come to lead the infected volodni kin whom he'd once resented, Nashyim enjoyed the sense of irony and vindictiveness. It taught him a concept best described as 'what goes around comes around', reminding him that his own actions have consequences than can come back to bite him. While no less driven to act, he made sure to minimize consequences. For example, rather than kill some people and let survivors escape and potentially come back seeking justice, Nashyim was more likely simply kill everyone.[1]

My thought was someone that dresses in rags and has a body that may have sporadic boils, shift between a fever and chills, and shows other signs of illness without getting too horrifically disgusting. I don't necessarily want to go into full body horror mode, though that might appeal to some people, but certainly s/he would not be someone that could in any way be considered attractive or even appealing. Or at most, it might be someone who might be at least somewhat so if s/he wasn't always afflicted by one illness or disease or another.

You can see why "mental illness" and also things related to schizophrenia and schizophrenic thoughts and paranoia are also part of this overall thread, even though literal schizophrenia and schizophrenic symptoms taken very literally is never the direction I'm going in with anything I write, the literal or "real world" definitions and dimensions are always meant to be referred to symbolically, it is not ever direct or straightforward "racism" or the issues straight on their face, the direct value and representation, but a form that refers to it as dispersed, greater, extended, more encompassing, diffuse, what it means or can be made to mean on different levels, since the direct stuff "as is" and "just that" is pretty boring and worthless for me. These things, the way I use them, are signs and aspects of what I call God or The One Power, Non-Information as opposed to Information, Action, Change, not a body, but with what can be called intelligence or self-direction that is different and "truer" than our own, since our own is just part of it, according to me anyway, as it is the Intelligence and algorithm of what we may see or think of as "random Chaos", but which I suggest is necessarily not exactly so, but is deliberate and these, all these things, including everything that has ever come up in any way, man-made.

Omg, I wrote SO much more than this, and it all got deleted by random, automatic refreshing, this is so infuriating, this is the third time this has happened, I explained everything in so much more painstaking detail. I wonder if the auto-saves can be more frequent so that I don't lose as much if it refreshes. I also don't even know what these refreshes are about and why they are happening so frequently now, it has wiped out my writing, entirely or partially, hours worth of work while I'm still working on it, three times or more in just these last few days.

Haha, and yeah, even that annoying stuff is credited as deliberate in what I explained and how it is so.

So this thread is about the somewhat difficult ontological cloud of ideas related to the first post, all the themes brought up in the later posts as metaphorical and made mystical, and the concepts related to "Talona", including even "Talons" and "Oni" and "Hannya", and "Neverborn", and things not mentioned in the thread yet, but which one who may start to "get it" can make connections to, like this:
